Really underwhelmed by our experience there, the rooms were OK but the restaurant only had a choice of 3 dishes which were not good. My main complaint is how we were dealt with by their tour operator. We wanted to do a boat tour to the crescent island game sanctuary. After reading about scams on the website for the sanctuary I was very specific that the would be taking us to the actual game sanctuary rather than the other side of the island which only has a few animals. After being charged 30 dollars extra each for entrance to the sanctuary we were taken to the other side(which does not require any entrance fee) and told that the sanctuary does not exist anymore. We immediately asked to be returned to Hippo Safaris resort where the tour operator continued to stretch the truth saying that it was now impossible to get to the main part of the island by boat and that the only way there now is by road which is a tour they do not offer. Really disappointed as we chose to stay here because of its proximity...
Read moreI happened to travel with my family for my great grandmothers burial and it occurred hippo safaris resort was our go to night stay cation. It offers bed and breakfast, and also the price range for each night is fair if you aren't coming to stay but for the night.
I loved their rooms; it was clean, spacious and comfortable to sleep at night.
Their service was poor; especially when it comes to having breakfast. The waiter was very slow and not willing to serve us. It's as if he's forced to. The breakfast was very shallow. It's the basic meals that one usually have at home; bread ( brown / white ) with jam and blue band, one sausage, fried egg, mahambri and tea options ( hot water, tea and hot milk with coffee sachets.
Moreover, I didn't like the location either. Guys tend to get confused and end up lost when searching for the place.
Apart from that, it's a good place. I like it since one can come with friends their and sleep for certain nights since guys are exploring different places...
Read moreThe staff was very nice. I felt that the room was a bit overpriced for peeling wallpaper, flaking paint, poor lighting and holes in the mosquito net. The walls are very thin and you can loudly hear conversations in neighboring rooms. I would love to help uplift the place. It is such a great location and he staff are just so lovely. The downside was that I was bothered often to buy a tour. One man from Bigfoot Adventures tried to sell me trip to Amboseli and the next morning texted me that he had an emergency and needed me to send him 10000 through MPESA. Another guy offered to taxi me to Hells Gate National Park for 5000 ksh. I took a matatu there each way for 70 ksh. The complimentary breakfast was fruit, sausages, hard boiled eggs and toast. The chapati was some of...
