I only went to the restaurant which had a view of the swimming pool but no lake view. Not as beautiful as neighboring restaurants.
I was aware of the long wait times from the reviews but did not expect for them to get my order wrong and spend over 4 hours there, even with only one other table to serve then. I was at least thankful there was fast and stable internet, one of the best I have seen around the lake.
In terms of service, they were accommodative when I asked for mango & banana smoothie (not on the menu) but was told no half an hour later. Turns out that waiter John had gone above and beyond to look for mangoes at the market but there were none. In this case I would have preferred to be told no upfront. I was impressed though by Wendy, the manager's handling of the mistake in my order, with courtesy, empathy and efficiency. Even waitress Mercy didn't make it difficult when I expressed that she missed my request for choma with salt only, due to food intolerances. But I would have preferred if she would have treated my health request more seriously.
As for the quality of the food, the first photo is what my wrong order came out to be. Looks and smells good if I could have eaten it. After the order mistake escalation, I wasn't fussy about how the food was cooked since I was already really hungry, I just asked again with salt only. 3.5 hours later when the food finally came, it was boiled, very tough and extremely salty. I guess you can call it typical Kenyan made.
All in all, it was not a good experience but I haven't given up on them yet. I appreciated the manager's involvement, and would like to try a different dish next time with 5x more clarity on my health issue. It is after all a lot more affordable than Carnelly's, has good internet and has a pier directly out onto the lake on...
Read moreI was really hoping to give more than a 3-star rating for this place but I honestly feel that's higher than I should actually give. The people (frontdesk, housekeeping, wait staff) are friendly enough. The food is a little on the bland side but passable. In all fairness, the chef went to great lengths to please and this hardly reflects just how nicely he treated us or went out of his way to make us feel appreciated. Cost is fair. But the experience is uninspiring to say the least. Rooms were musty with foul odor and clogging drains from the showers. Very little effort in making customers actually feel welcome. And there's clearly some undisclosed segmentation that happens. Sadly, it's not just here where this happens on the L.Naivasha strip. It has all the trimmings of a lakeside camp, a pool, a bar and the basics. There are bikes for hire and you can go boating on the lake but they're quick to disclaim liability for any incidents while camping or involving the boat trips. Have very moderate...
Read moreVery well maintained campsite, sitting right next to Lake Naivasha. Hippos are usually within view, or earshot, kept out by electric fencing, and colobus monkeys as well as other birds are usually abundant. Standard and executive rooms are available, which are all very clean and well maintained. The swimming pool isn't too large, but doesn't really matter considering it's usually too cold to swim in Naivasha. Camping is really cheap, and well worth the experience. Communal bathrooms with hot water are available for campers. Boat rides are available, but spooky tales about the lake have always kept me off, personally. The restaurant is quite excellent, albeit...
