Fig Tree Camp was one of the lodges and camps that we stayed at on a 19 day safari through Kenya and Tanzania booked through Tapestry of Africa.||Fig Tree Camp has wonderful smiling staff, great facilities and an amazing location with direct access to the Masai Mara. Your stay will be different depending on the accommodation that you stay in. ||On our first night we stayed in a bungalow that could not have been any further from the main lodge buildings. Although comfortable, it was dark, and very hard to find after dark! We got lost going back after dinner. Our travelling companion found themselves in a bungalow that seemed to be our with the staff accommodation. ||On our second night we were moved to luxury safari tents and they were very, very different to the bungalows. They were close to the pool and lodge buildings, light and airy, and due to the fact they would have been severely damaged in the floods earlier in the year, they were virtually new. Beautiful furniture, bathroom, bed, linens. Both overlooked the river across to the Masai Mara. There was a hippo pool a few metres along the riverbank from us. Just amazing!||Our meals were served and eaten in an enclosed space near the pool. The buffet was quite good, but if something ran out it was not necessarily refilled. The dining space was quite cramped and very noisy when full. The bar had very limited seating and the viewing deck was closed.||Future stays will be different to ours with the reopening of the beautiful open air lodge building with much larger open air bar and restaurant, and the fig tree viewing deck. This was due to happen the week after our stay.||We still recommend the camp if you are travelling to the Masai Mara, either on an organised safari, or as an independent traveller. Its location with direct access to the Masai Mar via a private bridge is amazing. Just be aware that your experience will be different depending on the accommodation...
Read moreStaff & Hospitality: What truly made our stay exceptional was the warmth and kindness of the staff. From the moment we arrived, we felt so well taken care of. The attention to detail and the genuine care they showed was heartwarming. The manager made it a point to check in with us daily, which added such a personal touch. We felt completely at home, and their thoughtfulness left a lasting impression.
In-Room Experience: The river tent offered an incredible nature experience. We could see hippos right outside our room and woke up to birds singing every morning. However, for the price we paid, there were a few amenities missing, like an iron, kettle, tea, coffee, and higher-quality toiletries. Despite this, the views and connection to nature made it worthwhile.
Food: The camp offers a fantastic selection of Indian food, which was a treat for us as vegetarians. The staff’s attention to our dietary preferences was outstanding, and we always felt that our needs were well looked after.
Game Drives: The game drives were a highlight of our trip. Our driver, Jonathan, and guide, Gabriel, were knowledgeable and took us to different landscapes every day. We were lucky to see 4 of the Big Five and loved learning about the wildlife of the Maasai Mara. The ever-changing landscapes made each drive a new adventure.
Special Experience: We celebrated my husband’s birthday with a private bush dinner, which was one of the most memorable experiences of our trip. We were surprised by a group of locals who came to sing happy birthday in their local language and brought a cake. It was a magical, heartfelt celebration that we will...

Only two occasions that weren't great: firstly on day one I was questioned on the room number i gave when trying to put drinks on our room at the bar because 'I'd come from the wrong direction'. Did not appreciate the accusation, could have checked with me in a better way than accusing me in a confrontational manner. Secondly on our last night I'd been ill for a few days and not eating much but came to dinner and planned to have something light. I was told by the waitress to 'sort myself out' and she seemed annoyed with me for being ill which was just lovely. This leads me to my only complaint with the place, the bottled water in the rooms isn't sealed new ones one but green glass reusable bottles and there needs to be covers over the food in the restaurant as lots of flies were about. This does not take away from the fact we also had incredible customer service, especially from Alvin in the restaurant, Jonathan our guide and Mary on reception. Jonathan managed to show us SO MANY animals it was incredible and we were so lucky! So grateful for his incredible guiding! We also loved doing the hot air balloon experience and the champagne breakfast in the Mara was the most incredible experience. Overall absolutely thrilled with...
