Hillside grand hotel chuka — Hotel in Tharaka-Nithi

Hillside Grand Hotel. A spectacular hospitality landmark in Ndagani area, Chuka Igambang'ombe Constituency, Tharaka Nithi County. Located 2.5 Km from Chuka Town and a stone throw from Chuka University along the busy Meru-Nairobi Highway, the hotel boasts its reputable standards in the entire county. I attended a conference in the hotel once and spent a night in their classy clean set rooms and one word only can summarize my experience - awesome. The food is fantastic and service is world class. In the evening the bar lounge located outside the main restaurant is usually open for you who needs whisky or a beer to complete the night. Another awesome place in Tharaka Nithi...

The rooms are adequate but basic, and some of the staff are friendly enough (others seem a bit unhappy to be there). The food, when it comes (between 5 minutes and one hour depending on unknown factors) is good. But the kitchen kept running out of stuff and not replacing it, so we had a massala tea on day one, then it wasn't available for the rest of the week despite it being readily available in nearby shops. In the end we bought some teabags and asked for hot water. Internet connectivity was usually not available. Finally, be aware that this is an alcohol-free hotel, so don't expect a cold Tusker...

The only thing I can commend is their location as it not so far from the main road and also breakfast which wasn't that bad as it keeps someone full throughout the day but I didn't like the room I slept in. The bathroom which has both toilet and shower had an odour whenever I got in plus the toilet was leaking water had to close with the main shut off water valve. The bed was okay. A hotel just good for a nap nothing else I can commend. Plus the TV is controlled no diversity in the channels as TV rooms are controlled...
