Mangro Hotel Diani — Hotel in Ukunda ward

My girlfriend and I stayed for 16 days in May 2022. The Hotel is about what one would expect from a 3 star facility. The A/C worked great, the bed was comfortable, the room was spacious, and the grounds were tropical and nice. The breakfast was okay, very basic. It would be nice if they offered a buffet, however it was the same thing everyday. Most of the staff were extremely nice and helpful, especially Philip, He was one of the nicest people that I met on the entire trip. The one really bad situation that took place was, one of the staff members, that works in the office, convinced us to take a day excursion to Wasini Island. She charged us 14,000 Kenyan shillings, which was at least double, possibly triple what we should have paid. Everyone on the excursion to Wasini, and many local people explained that we were seriously ripped off! Also this lady explained that everything was covered in the price, drinks were not!! Mangro hotel is great value for travelers visiting with not a huge budget but want to still enjoy ukunda. Hotel is clean, welcoming staff especially at reception and the restaurant/bar. Rooms have mosquito nets, ACs for those hot days, and a small TV with limited station options, and fridge. There are also spacious balconies at the back of the rooms with seating area enough for more than 5 people. |I found the shower cubicles rather tiny, but appreciated clean bedding and towels. I got a decent walk-in price for single occupancy. As it later turned out I wasn't staying alone but I never hid the extra person, the reception knew perfectly about it. They waited 3 days though to tell me that the double rate would be 66% higher. No kidding, that's what they did. I showed them that I could actually book the same room online cheaper, to which the manager said that this is international website and Kenyan website shows different price. I am dead serious, that's what she said. The wi-fi is practically non-existent, restaurant is fine but sometimes has no juice for example. Electricity and water cuts happened.
