Jolanta — Hotel in Alūksne

Arriving end-of-day, but already when booking I noticed they were extra ordinary, delivering a service I don'r expect in the country side - I wanted to book staying over a night, but found that the price was more than good and frankly felt I wanted to include more, so they upped and all was included - early morning swim in the pool, beverages in the room, the breakfast and they went with me to my room upon arrival and instructed and showed me around, juts like the Mandarine Oriental in HongKong in the 1960's.The food served in the restaurant - well-cooked, tasty, fast delivery, interesting wines - a red from Sardinia???! It was rich in taste and so unexpected. The seating arrangement was changed from dinner to breakfast and the linen nicely laid out. Good stable breakfast, warm atmosphere, the tea was custom made for me and cup and all served me at my table - hot! If you had a need - it came. Smiling, friendly personnel. I will be back, but for sure I will tell everyone! P..s the villagers all seem to come to the small pool for water aerobics -which tells you it is appreciated, there is a sauna, the bar is rich in content...what nore...

While visiting Aluksne, we went to Jolanta for the dinner. The staff is friendly and helpful. However we were left with rather disappointing experience at the end. My partner ordered stake (medium rare). Steak was cooked correctly but meat was like a leather boot. It was very hard to cut it with the knife and even harder to eat. I politely asked staff would it be okay to change it to alternative dish. Once the waitress spoke to the chef , she confirmed it is okay to change it. Unfortunately 5 minutes later waitress returned to to us to explain that chef wants us to pay 10€ for the steak that my partner didn’t eat as it was cooked to order. It was unpleasant and quite frustrating situation, therefor we decided to leave right away. We had to pay for my meal and 10€ for the steak.

I am very disappointed that this was the way they decided to deal with the complaint. We were there 2 nights prior and spent over 100€ and surly would have spend much more if chef or manager would have just changed the dish as it was confirmed originally.

I will not return to Jolanta and surly will not advise my friends...

We booked an economy room for three just in case our little daughter decided to come to a trip to Latvia with us but since she decided to stay with grandmother, there was only two of us in the room. Our room was not in the main house and it was pretty basic, I think it was the tiniest tv I have ever seen :) The room had kettle but no glasses or cups for making tea. The bathroom was in a hall shared with another room and had a really nice comfort shower - unfortunately only regular shower was working. Also wifi was no good in our room but it was working in the main house. I really liked the breakfast in the hotel, for such a little hotel it was up to very good standards.The staff was really friendly and helpful.
