Poor check in process - Kazakiwi hotel Luxembourg
We are international travellers in the real sense based in Canada and currently we have been travelling through Europe through 12 countries and 16 cities for about 5 weeks now and we arrived at Kazakiwi hotel close to the Luxembourg train station after travelling by 4 different trains and 3 transfers in between all the way from Lucerne Switzerland. So, we were tired. As we progressed with the check in process, we felt and had questions as there was a poor direction and guidance by the reception staff even to the room. We wanted the staff to confirm if the booking was with breakfast and we had a reply as no. We were surprised but we quickly paid the charges. The hotel was in 2 different buildings and in few different levels and we were struggling hard to figure out where’s our room. We hardly had any help. With heavy luggages on us it became too much. There was no proactive explanation on where is the breakfast room, what to do in the city with a basic map explaining that happens usually in any hotel at the time of check in. There was no safe to secure our valuable items, no mini fridge that you usually find in many hotels and the toilet seat was odd with smaller ring than base. (Picture shown) Feeling we would be made to feel low or dumb, we stopped asking anymore question to the unfriendly staff! We never had to go through in our lifetime such an unsupportive and unwelcome check in process. Once inside the room, we were unable to control the a/c and left it at that. We hardly had any sleep that night, as the a/c was set at 24 degrees. Next day, we raised our concerns to the new team of morning staff and one Rachael came up to resolve our problems after profusely apologizing for what happened. As an act of appeasement, she also promised to reverse our breakfast charges (80 euros). When we went to the breakfast hall the next day morning, there was a confusion that if we were entitled to have breakfast as our names were not found in the list. One more lapse on the part of the person who checked us in and collected the money for the breakfast. He had not passed on the information to the breakfast room. However that was quickly sorted out by the breakfast room team. During the breakfast one staff was constantly and always on the phone. Not sure if she had any emergency but clearly it didn’t present well to the guests. Replenishment of food items was non-existent. Some items ran out and no timely and quick replenishment was happening. Remarkably missing were the greens - no vegetables like cucumber, tomatoes and bell peppers. Also, we found the smallest dining table ever for a buffet breakfast! This could be due to two reasons - either the space is too tight to accommodate several guests or the management wants people to struggle through to keep the plates and eat less! We went out in the morning and as we came back by evening, our key card wasn’t working. We checked the card too which was left in the room. That too wasn’t working. Strange! We had to get a new card from the reception again.
All we request from the management is that mistakes do happen but if the mistakes go uncorrected without proper coaching to the erring staff, any business can go down. I am a google Level 8 reviewer and I felt like rating the place down to one star but Rachael saved the situation. Giving 4 stars to remedy the situation and rise up to the expectations of the future guests and try to get 5 stars! Otherwise speaking, room was clean and comfortable barring the surrounding areas where construction activity by the city authorities was going on in a high swing on which the hotel management has hardly any control. Wish this hotel good luck for doing more and well for the...
Read moreFor others this may have been a five-star experience, but for me, this hotel had issues. The biggest problem to me was the fact that the room door assembly fell off whenever you opened the door, and the bathroom faucet was loose and wobbly. The front door handle could be snapped back into place but it made a terrible impression. I’m shocked that they would rent out a room without those items being fixed (at the very least, housekeeping should notice these things). There were other annoyances as well: The frosty politesse I received from the front desk clerk when I couldn’t spot the room number that she’d written in a small, semi-legible scrawl on our key card holder. The fact that they only gave one key for two people, and that key had to be used in order to activate the lights. The room itself was undersized — for a short stay, it’s better to have a place where you can just lay down your suitcases as opposed to putting everything on a shelf. The bathroom was also small, and the lack of bathroom counter space was a real inconvenience. I appreciated the non-slick shower and floor space, but the lack of markings on the shower temperature control made it harder to figure out which part was warm or cold.
The dining area is too small overall and only allows for limited privacy. The breakfast was passable and had interesting touches like shrimp and chicken dumplings. But there were maddening aspects, like putting the dishes on a lower shelf, where they were harder to detect, and using bowls to serve coffee instead of cups. Also, there should have been extra napkins in the food serving area as opposed to a single napkin on the table. Did I mention that there were some sketchy characters in the...
Read moreHotel Kazakiwi is a small and recent refurbished boutique hotel not far from Luxembourg’s main railway station. Recently I’ve stayed here for three nights and this hotel scores well on many counts. My spotless clean standard room was cosily furnished and had a comfortable queen size bed, an excellent working A/C, a secure Wi-Fi connection that was fast and stable and a Nespresso machine with accompanying pads. The spacious bathroom had a lovely rain shower and contained quality toiletries. Other assets are the friendly staff and the excellent and varied breakfast buffet including some hot options.
However, there were some drawbacks as well. The biggest downsides were the curtains that did not sufficiently keep out the streetlights and the constant sound of drain water from a pipe. I suppose I was just unlucky with the room, but eye mask and earplugs were necessary to sleep. Furthermore, I missed a safe to store my laptop and a fridge would have been welcomed as well. Finally, the room looks great but wasn’t practical on several points: the lack of a power socket at the working desk or the small opening in the cupboard making it difficult to refill the Nespresso are just two examples that could be handled better.
This hotel enjoys a central location, at just a few steps from the main bus, tram and train station. Therefore Hotel Kazakiwi serves as a good base for exploring both the city and the country, as public transportation is free of charge and...
