The Melia is a modern and quirky hotel close to all amenities, the nearest tram stop is just over the road which takes you up to the expo centre or into the city city, with numerous stops along 5he way. Melia has two entrances one comes in on level 2 the other on the ground floor. The reception staff are truly brilliant, offering expert knowledge about the whole area and if a tourist other areas, even in adjoining countries. Rooms are large with everything you are likely to need, the views are great, you’ll see in my images a view from our bedroom over trees. We were not disturbed for room service once during our stay, it all seems to happen after 11am maybe later, meaning if holidaying you get a good lay in or chill out. Rooms have a variety of international television, it’s actually a blessing in winter. We went during Christmas so we’re able to catch up on BBC television shows and movies, when the city had us beat from exhaustion. I can not recommend this lovely hotel enough, weirdly despite being a short distance from the city centre, you can kind of see Melia from almost everywhere in Luxembourg, for those with navigation issues just look to the horizon, it’s so easy to find.

Not sure why this is a 4* hotel when everything is very mediocre; from service to the room to the breakfast. The reception was friendly but didn’t provide a lot of information. We paid €30 for our dogs to stay the night. They provided a bed, bowls, a little mat and a treat which we appreciated. The room was very simple, that leans more towards a cheap vibe for a 4* hotel. The floor and bed were very clean, but there was cob web on the ceiling and some dust in the bathroom. The ventilation didn’t work and the room was too warm. When we tried to use the phone to call the reception, we realised the phone also didn’t work… The door of the bathroom doesn’t stay open or closed, it would automatically swing back half open, really annoying. The shower is a tub which is not easy to get in and out and water comes out even with the half door which leaves a puddle on the floor 😬 a bit dangerous when stepping out. The breakfast was bad. Everything looked and tasted cheap; from the coffee, juice, fruits and meat. The bacon was burnt. Not an enjoyable breakfast at all. For the price point and considering this is advertised as a 4* hotel, I would expect more. Won’t be returning.

Moved to Melia from the Le Royal to be closer to work. Enjoyed the location for it's views and closeness to public transportation. Hotel staff are good, but didn't enjoy two aspects 1) wifi is on and off- my coworker told me about this, but said it got better near the end of his trip. For me it started off good, but when I needed it for some important work to be completed asap, it was down. Called down to the reception after the second night of this and was told they could switch my room and hopefully that would resolve or that I could work in the main lobby area. Neither were acceptable for me as it was nearly 11pm. 2) I needed a wine bottle opener and was told at first they would bring it up, then they called back saying if they bring it to my room I would be charged or I could bring my wine to the restaurant for them to open it. Found that very inconvenient for a hotel that is charging me 300+ Euros a night. I was there for 2 weeks.

Very nice hotel. The building is modern and stylish and in a really lovely position. It is a 20-30 minute walk into the old town or a slightly quicker journey using the free public transport. The nearest bus/tram stop is a 5-10 minute walk but is an easy route and mostly through the old fort complex. I think we ended up thinking this was a perfect place to stay, as there seemed to be very few hotels in the old town and certainly none offering the more modern benefits of this hotel. It was nice to return from the bustle of the touristy old town.

The views afforded by the Level Room with City View were superb. It was quite fascinating to visit the city and then be able to see, quite literally, everywhere you had been from your hotel window! Worth the uplift if your budget allows.

The Level Lounge which is included with any Level room is a small lounge with complimentary drinks and snacks. This was always fully stocked when we visited and features small snack items and finger food, like small sandwiches, fresh fruit, cakes, Haribo-style sweets, juices, tea and coffee and a few alcoholic options. This is certainly a nice perk but probably not worth the upgrade cost alone if not inclusive of the view mentioned above.

Both our room and bathroom were large and kept spotlessly clean and tidy. The bed was super comfy and the aircon kept the room at a perfect temperature. We were disappointed that we had a shower over a bath rather than a walk in shower shown on the booking pictures, but perhaps we should have requested this in advance.

Breakfast was about as good as hotel buffets get. Very large selection including all the usual staples and a very nice cooked breakfast selection. Eggs can be made to order. They have an abundance of coffee machines, which was very much appreciated on the day we had breakfast late and the room was very busy.

The staff were all friendly and helpful and on hand at all times.

However, regarding the 2 stars for service - if the hotel is reading this, please give some consideration to training your staff to have better awareness around inclusivity. The young attendant we were checked in by made a terrible faux pas by asking us if our booking was correct and we indeed mean to have one room with a double bed. As a gay couple this is at best just a little humiliating and at worst borderline offensive. Sadly, we are use to this kind of experience so it didn't ruin our stay, but certainly something that shouldn't really happen.

Otherwise, highly...

It's too bad there isn't a 0 star rating..

I travel for professional reasons and often have to book hotels. Establishments who cater to such clients (international, business) have understood that sending reminders of reservations increases the Customer Experience and can truly lock in regular income. Let me tell you now, do not expect this from Melia Luxembourg.

After reserving a room 3 weeks in advance, no reminder, nothing. Unfortunately, I had used another email address to book this hotel. I tried to cancel but could not find the reservation number. First time no-show that was clearly due to a series of unfortunate events. Nothing done on their end to try to find an agreement (e.g. vouchers, rebate for next visit, etc.).

Conclusion, they have lost a potential recurrent customer and have gained a detractor that will spread the word. Try the Hilton Double-Tree or Hotel Parc (multiple addresses).

Good day. [In response to the answer to my review]

Dear Mr. Kau,

I retain my view based on facts. What you call "reminder" 15-min after my booking is in fact a "confirmation". A reminder consists of a notification (email, SMS, etc.) that is sent closer to the event date. No such reminder was sent to me prior to the upcoming date, otherwise I would have been reminded of the booking (on whichever email address I used for the booking). This is where our points of view diverge in terms of what consists of good customer service. So be it.

I understand that you need to consider the economic interests of your company. If your objective is the short term, I agree with you. If you look further than 1 month in advance, I disagree. Indeed, you could have made an economic gesture, gained a regular client and have a promoter of your establishment at the same time (= economic growth). Instead, you will have a detractor who will not come back to your establishment and never recommend you to his peers or colleagues (= economic loss).

Best...

Sleeping at this hotel was actually my husband’s idea, and I’m so happy I didn’t decide otherwise! Waking up in the morning and having the view of the old city through the panorama windows is not something every city hotel can offer you! Their mattresses are of a high quality with different types of pillows which makes it even more comfortable to have a good night sleep. The rooms are warm and cozy, the temperature can be regulated, the windows can be tilted for a bit of fresh air. I fell in love with the big bathrooms and the clean smell every day when returning to the hotel after scrolling through the city. You have a tram station 3 min!!!! away from the hotel; 5 minutes to the city Center or 5 min to a shopping mall which makes it a perfect location. The staff at the reception is so friendly and helpful open to give you any type of indication you might need like transport l, or where to purchase tickets for Philarmony for example. They have a special restaurant, they serve dishes you don’t find everywhere and the service is one of a kind- it makes you feel welcomed and cherished as a guest. Please book the breakfast when you take a room, you mustn’t lose the opportunity to taste the best breakfast you ever had in a hotel, with the kindest team! Very convenient, they have a main entry which leads you to the elevators and a second entry to the restaurant which also leads to the elevators, I haven’t seen this often so no matter from which direction you might come you can easily transport your bags to the room. Something worth mentioning, they offer high quality Rituals care products in their bathroom- which for me makes a huge difference compared to many others known expensive hotels. If you go to visit Luxembourg, there isn’t a better choice than Meliá if you desire high quality services, wonderful staff , best location, great food and a very good price for the standard they offer and this definitely deserves a 5...
