Place needs to be upkept/ refurbished. It is under-maintained. Cleanliness wise, it's neglected. Spider webs found on the lower bunk bed where you lay down and it's above you. Some clothes racks in the toilets that have already came off the wall were placed aside-- limited having space. Toilet window sills are dusty. The bedsheets and pillow cases are not the cleanest--they have yellowed with stains/spots+ strands of hair upon check in. The entrance and stairway to the room is always sandy/ not frequently swept. So your feet would bring up the sand to your room. Thick dust visibly sticking on the wooden walls of the room-feels like it's been there for months. Not a recommended for ASTHMATIC or sinus patients / elderly, esp babies, because the dusty wall is directly above where you place your head when you sleep. You might"eat some dust" in your sleep. The whole place just feels very neglected and run down. Not worth the money though it may be a tad cheaper than other places in Balik Pulau, Penang. Also, when booking, the picture shown online was mattress with bed. The one we got was mattress on floor. Kinda misleading. To sum it up, it feels like an old, shabby , dirty hostel that no intention+effort is put into maintaining. All in all, would not recommend this...
Read moreI only stayed there because nothing else was available, due to the bridge marathon. and my flight left from Penang, so could not leave the island instead. Since it's located in the middle of nowhere you can't do anything out there without a motorcycle. A walk to the next smaller shop takes you about 45 mins each way. Dead insects in the beds, dorms haven't been cleaned ages. Staff is friendly though. The pictures reviewed in the Internet must be months old (and show the best condition the guesthouse could have, it looks way messier there and the terrace isn't really opened) They don't provide any food besides toast and noodles. ||the bike rental is handy, but then traveling asia i guess u have seen rice paddies before. but u can use the bike to get to the next beach, its been a nice one. ||there is a free shuttle to the busstop, but if it would run frequently you could use it to get into town to actually see something, but it doesn't. ||so only go there if you are keen on bike tours, and love the loneliness.... there won't be many...
Read morePros : For a short-term (1-2 days) stay, this homestay is a great choice. They have 3 combined showers and toilets, very spacious and clean. Rooms are of decent size (I have 8 siblings, and there were 10 of us including my parents so we booked 3 rooms). All rooms have an air-con and a fan so if the air-con gets too cold, you can turn it off and use the fan instead. They have their own cafes You can rent bikes to cycle around the area
Cons : Receptionist doesn't really know basic customer service so he just does what his boss told him. We booked 3 rooms but he was told that we only booked 1 (we showed them our proof that we paid for 3) so instead of confirming our stay, he made us wait downstairs for 20 minutes and it was so hot! As if we would lie! So that has to change. We were not told up front that we need to pay RM30 for towels. I don't think I have ever paid separately for towels when I booked a homestay. Bring your own blanket. Theirs have a towel-like texture, are very rough, and not thick enough for...
