Family Villa is great for a short family getaway, surrounded by nature and away from the city. We stayed for 3 nights, with kids and elderly. Visited the attractions at Balik Pulau in the daytime.
This homestay has I think 6 room units + 6 standalone villa units. Hosts are a local Chinese husband-wife couple (fluent in both English & Mandarin) and their parents. Very friendly, helpful in answering our questions/accommodating to our requests, humble and welcoming. The wife pays attention to little details - I asked for milk to go with coffee on 1st morning and for the next 2 mornings, she would specially take it out of the fridge without me asking.
The family villa: Just a few steps away from the main building (where the reception counter is). Very clean and simple furnishings Aircon + ceiling fan + electric mosquito repellent (can turn on/off) in both bedrooms (2 queen + 1 queen) and living room. One attached toilet Equipped with fridge with freezer, electric kettle, mugs, bath towel x6, shower gel & shampoo, towel drying rack, hair dryer, heated shower head, toilet bowl with flush. Strong WiFi signal. No TV.
Breakfast at the cafe/reception area (ground floor of main building): Simple yet tasty local fare that was different throughout our 3 mornings there (fried bee hoon, kueh, steamed buns, fried eggs sunny side up, fresh fruits etc). Buffet style. Self-help to tea and coffee. While there, admire the many antique items that decorate the area! Or try your hand at the traditional game - congkak.
3 friendly dogs - one brown dog that loves following us back to our villa.
We went off-peak so not many other guests and durian fruits on the trees were still small, not ready to eat yet. Durian season starts approximately mid-end May. Many fruit trees in the compound nevertheless. We ventured till the Activity Hall and down into a small stream - the farm spans quite a large area!
Location: about 10 min away from the town centre of Balik Pulau. Single lane paved road nearer to the accomodation. The owner gave us a driver contact to get to/fro the airport.
Tip: Be well covered with mosquito repellent when heading out of the room! We brought our own as we are mosquito magnets, but think I saw that the host also has some at the reception area.
My kids were happy playing with the dogs, sitting on the swing, admiring the random insects that they came across, climbing trees, checking out the fruit trees, picking the fallen flowers off the grass, exploring the small stream, sitting on the rocking horse and playing congkak at the...
Read moreI was first skeptical about the place and whether we would be comfortable living there, but we were wrong and taken by awe at the generosity and commitment to make us feel comfortable with our stay by the owners; Jenny, her Husband, her son Vivi and his wife. We stayed there for a total of three days and the rooms and bathrooms were sparkling clean, no bad odors, beds were very comfortable and lined with fresh sheets and blankets! The resort itself has a rustic /old charm like feel with three very cute and kind dogs, pleasant garden with lighting to have your breakfast, evening tea and/or dinner. The dipping pool with is present there is always flowing with fresh river water and dipping in it was a refreshing experience. Being vegeterians we were worried whether we would have enough options for dinner or breakfast but we were proved wrong again! The breakfast consisted of fruits and juices for the season, salad and mains that were filling indeed. We were amazed by the options and dishes provided during dinner, all freshly cooked and well seasoned. I would say that the cuisines used were a mix of Chinese, Peranakan and Malay , and all the dinners were delicious! Their nutmeg juice, durians and fruit freshly picked from their farm during season, and coffee leaf tea are highly recommended along with their dinner! Finally they also provide an affordable tour of balik pulao and Penang city (depending on which tour length you prefer) and take you to great places to eat and visit! I will definitely visit them during the next opportunity (durian season), and recommend their resort...
