I chose this hotel because it seemed to be the most decent hotel in the city. However, I was disappointed immediately after checking in for a three nights stay.
From the moment I entered the room, I was hit by a strong, unpleasant wet carpet odor. It smelled damp, as if it hadn’t been properly dried. To make matters worse, the toilet bowl was leaking continuously, with water flowing freely like a small waterfall. It looked like the issue had been there for a while before I arrived.
I called the front desk to request maintenance. The technician came and attempted to fix the issue but discovered that the valve inside the tank was broken. He left to get a replacement valve. On his way out, I asked if he could identify the smell in the room. He confirmed it was a strong wet carpet smell and suggested we request a room change.
When I called the front desk to ask for a new room, the lady said they couldn’t change my room but would send housekeeping to address the issue. About 10 minutes later, housekeeping arrived and sprayed air freshener. I asked if it would help cover the wet carpet smell, the very polite staff member just smiled and shook his head. He also recommended changing rooms and kindly contacted the front desk on my behalf to request a new room.
Eventually, we were moved to the room next door, which had the same carpet smell but not as intense. I decided to stay and turned the air conditioning to full blast to dry the room and mask the damp odor.
The amenities were disappointing too. For a room meant for two guests, we were given just one tiny tube of shampoo, one tiny tube of shower gel, and one bath towel. No hand towels, face towels or slippers. I had to call housekeeping again to request a second set, which thankfully arrived quickly. Unlike all the hotels where rooms are automatically cleaned in the morning, here they won’t clean your room unless you specifically ask them to. It’s not the standard practice you’d expect from a 4 star hotel.
Breakfast was chaotic on the weekend. The dining area was far too small to accommodate all the guests. Many people had to wait outside for a table. That’s not something you’d expect from a hotel of this range category.
The only redeeming feature of this hotel was its wifi speed. It is fast and reliable throughout my stay.
Overall, experience was far below expectations. The poor room condition, lack of basic amenities and overcrowded breakfast area. This stay was absolutely not worth the amount I paid, I’m...
Read more3 out of 5 times I've stayed here, the room smelled a tiny bit of cigarette smoke upon entering, but after 10mins it stopped bothering me. while they can't stop inconsiderate customers from smoking in non-smoking rooms, i hv to commend the cleaning crew for doing a fine job trying to eliminate the smell.
the view, you can choose city view/paddy field view. i prefer paddy view.
Bed is big & comfortable. 4 pillows with 2 different firmness (hard & medium). Aircond works great...you can turn the whole room into a giant icebox of you wish. the mini fridge was a joke, can't cool anything. might as well not provide it.
Spacious room with a worktable. The lighting is very dim. For a leisure trip, it is very relaxing but if you need to work in yr room, the lighting is way too low.
There's a full length mirror, small cupboard with a safebox, iron, iron board, 2 house robes but only 4 hangers which is good for 2 nights stay i guess.
Bathroom...Love love love the heavy rainfall shower and soft water, which is good for hair & skin, but water gets clogged easily and flood the shower booth. But i discovered that if you reach down and PULL OPEN the METAL COVER, the water can flow easily and no flooding. no need to call maintenance. the hairdryer is a good quality Phillips brand.
Tv channels include 2 movie channels and 1 cartoon network besides all local channels, news & discovery channel.
Cleanliness...the coffee making area was a bit oily and stained but otherwise all fine.
Theres a gym and a small outdoor pool which i didn't hv time to use.
Breakfast was adequate. There's enough choices to please everyone. There's the following: drinks station: juices 2types, coffee, teh tarik, water bread station: croissant, cinnamon rolls, choc muffins, 2-3 types breads both hard & soft with toaster, butter, jam. hot food station: nasi lemak, nasi goreng, noodles, curry chic (too spicy), baked beans, yummy hash browns, chic sausages, congee with 8types condiments noodle soup station: choose yr noodles and condiments. egg station: hard/soft boiled, scrambled, omelette. cold food island: salads, fruits, cold meats, cheese, cornflakes&milk, english pudding & custard.
Overall, this is the best value for money hotel in alor star. probly the best...
Read moreFirst of foremost, I'm not Karen. I'm frequent traveller to Alor Setar & this is not my first time staying here I did write decent review about this hotel previously but not today.
The room was not well kept. They left pillows 'naked' without any case. To my surprise, they put them on the head bed frame. It looked like the house keeper did job half way. Table lamp was not available at my room too. I called receptionist & after that a maintenance man followed by house keeper came to solve my issue regarding the table lamp & pillow case. They did not utterly sorry about what happened which I think your team really need customer service training. Your staff did not portray 4-star hotel service.
When I was about to use toilet, I was quite surprised to see cigarette butt and its waste in the toilet bowl. Then, I found used cotton bud on the toilet floor. At this point, I ran out of patience. I called receptionist, requested to change a room. While waiting for the receptionist, I saw food leftover on the table. Omg!
There was a young receptionist came & wanted to inspect the room I suppose. When I said there was cigarette butts & cotton bud.
he replied "biasala tu puan, kami tak boleh control"
His reply really made my blood boiled 100 degree celcius you know. he didn't apologize instead he tried to normalize this incident.
Wait, I'm not done yet. Next, he did something which really made me want to SLAP HIS FACE.
HE DID NOT TAKE OFF HIS SHOES & WENT STRAIGHT TO THE CARPETED AREA BLUNTLY! FIRST, THAT WAS MY ROOM & YOUR SHOES ARE FREAKING DIRTY!!! SECOND, OII BUDAK BIJAK, AKU NAK SEMBAHYANG LA DEKAT BILIK TU, YANG KAU PERGI PIJAK APEHAL.AKU PUN TAK PAKAI KASUT LAA DEKAT RUANGAN CARPET. THIRDLY, HE DIDN'T APOLOGIZE OF WHAT HE HAVE DONE & STILL HE SAID 'BIASALA' AFTER HE STEP ON THE CARPET WHILE WEARING HIS SO SACRED SHOES.
After what happened,he hesitant to allow me to change room & claimed that rooms were almost full. He offered to call house keeper instead. At that time, I really can't keep my anger so I did raise my voice. At last, I've got my room changed but my night has been ruined.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO ANYONE, ESPECIALLY TO WHOSE CONCERN ABOUT CLEANLINESS &...
