Gold city hotel — Hotel in Malacca

Cleanliness: Upon entering the bathroom, it smelled good, and the floor appeared clean. However, on closer inspection, it was clear the cleaner hadn't washed the basin, toilet bowl, mirror, or other surfaces. It was truly unacceptable and quite disgusting.

Room: The room’s decoration was attractive, but both the TV and mirror had a thick layer of dust. The coffee cups were also dusty, and there was only one teaspoon, which was stained as if it hadn't been washed after the last use—again, very unpleasant.

TV: The TV was not functioning at all.

Housekeeping: There was no daily housekeeping or replenishment of amenities, despite this being promised during the booking process.

Positive aspects: The staff at the front desk were friendly, and the manager/owner was reachable. The hotel was quiet, and there was plenty of parking available.

Overall: While this is a one-star hotel, and expectations were modest, I've stayed in similarly priced hotels in Kota Laksamana that didn't have these cleanliness issues. Having stayed in around 10 hotels in Malacca over the years, this was my worst experience in terms of...

Even by budget hotel standard, the condition of this hotel is quite unacceptable. The room is old, dirty, and extremely smelly. For some reason, the room reeks of cigarette to the point that I had no choice but to open the windows for better ventilation. The bed has noticeable stains and it's downright disgusting. The toilet stinks, and the shower tap lacks water pressure. It is indeed cheap, but I have stayed at cheaper and better hotels elsewhere. The reception did their job, nothing much more than that. Overall I have never wanted to leave a hotel so quickly before. I'm glad I only stayed for a night. If for whatever reason you find yourself at Cheng (there's nothing much going on there), do yourself a favor and stay at a better hotel elsewhere even if may be...

Pros: Comfortable bed, air conditioner, cable tv, phone, heater, hair dryer, cabinet for clothes, water dispenser in the hallway, iron with board provided also in the hallway, at reception there are foods for sale, self check-in and check-out machine, friendly staff.

Cons: The air conditioner takes time to cool the room, sometimes no water in the bathroom (imagine if you were showering, suddenly no water 😅), parking limited

Overall: For solo travellers, I recommend this hotel based on the price and facilities. But for families if they want to stay overnight, still can but if more than 2 nights, better find...
