This place exceeded our expectations. I actually did not have high expectations based on the price of our room and having booked a very “basic” accommodation. Even though all the reviews raved about their stay and the breakfast, I was still skeptical of what we would find. I must say the other reviewers were right. Of inexpensive basic guesthouses, this one is a true gem. It is still a new property (less than a year old) and the owner is slowly expanding and improving over time so the accommodation was actually better than previous pictures showed since the owner (he goes by the name “Luka”) is continuing to improve it. The room and bathroom, while basic in amenities, was very comfortable and was among the cleanest we have stayed in during our 2-week road trip through Malaysia—this includes properties that we paid 3 times this nightly rate. We stayed in one of the “family” rooms and our room included 2 queen beds and a single bed. It can sleep 5 people. It had enough power outlets near each bed for us to all charge our phones and devices. The aircon worked well and the room and bathroom were sealed well enough that we had no issues with mosquitoes even though we were on a river in a rainforest. The bathroom had beautiful new tile, plenty of towels, and shampoo and bodywash was provided. There were olenty of hooks to hang up clothes and towels and there was room for 4 pieces of luggage and space to hang up clothes if needed. There was also space outside of the room if you needed to do laundry and hang up wet clothes on the line. The bedding was new and clean. The beds were the typical hard beds you find in Asia but not too hard. The pillows were comfortable and in good condition. The room had blackout curtains. The breakfast was good and had a wide variety of local favorites of savory and sweet pastries and Luka also cooks eggs to your liking in the morning and there’s toast, jam, nutella, etc. He has a pot of tea and pot of coffee (as well as packets of milo) available anytime throughout the day for guests to enjoy. There is an open air kitchen with a couple of burners and while I did not ask, I would think Luka would be okay if guests decided they wanted to prepare their own food. There are some basic provisions in town like pasta, ramen, eggs, sauces, etc. But food at the local restaurants are the cheapest we’ve found in Malaysia with entrees as cheap as 6 RM, water at 1 RM, and soda at 2 RM. you can eat and drink on less than 10 RM per person in this town.||Luka emailed us in advance to let us know to get enough cash for our stay as restaurants and excursions are cash only and there is not an ATM for miles and miles. This was very helpful. He also told us about excursions he could arrange and their prices so we knew how much cash to bring. We did a 3-hour guided hike in the national park during the morning and a boat trip to an Arang Asli settlement after lunch. This boat trip to visit the Arang Asli was the highlight of our time in Malaysia (note: be prepared to get wet on the boat ride). Luka arranged the kindest guide for us (we had Alan) and he was quiet, highly intelligent and a local expert on the flora and fauna and also speaks the language of the Arang Asli. Luka arranges guideswho are employees (park rangers) of the national park so you will be guided by professional experts. ||No complaints, especially when you consider what all you are getting for the price of the room. We had a rental car so we didn’t need transport but there were other guests that Luka was giving them rides to/from dinner and their excursions. Luka is so kind and friendly and goes out of his way to be helpful. This is a small guesthouse (only 4 rooms in total) but this seems to be how he likes it so he can give a lot of personal care to his guests. We appreciated this extra...
Read moreWe stayed 2 nights with a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids aged 14,12 and 11). The accomodation is very basic but it's all you need and everything was clean and tidy. The owner lives across the street and welcomes you by taking you to a local shop to have a guave welcome drink and to talk to you to see if he can be of any assistance (this roomstay is about 2 km from the boat crossing that allows you to visit Taman Negara). The owner can also arrange for you the trips in the park (we did the night jungle tour on the day of our arrival and the next day we hiked to a lookout point and in the afternoon took a boat for the river rafting and visiting a local orang asli vilage wher they show you how to make fire, hunt, etc. We drove to this place with our rental car but many people will also arrive by boat, if that is your case make sure to call the owner, he can pick you up (and he will also drop you off at the boat crossing which is really nice of him). Breakfast is also locally made and you have a wide variety of local breakfast options that you can choose from. I really recommend this place (it's very well priced and if you compare it to the official hotel (Mutiara) in Taman Negara this is...
Read moreWe loved this place for two reasons. Firstly, Mr Luka was an incredible host who's recommendations for local food and experiences for our family were spot on. He was very friendly, down-to-earth and kind and would bend over backwards for all his guests. Whilst we had a car and didn't need any help, we noticed that he was constantly ferrying his other guests to and from their tours/restaurants. He was also keen to share as much information about Malaysia and Malaysian food as possible. In addition to the fabulous host, the spot is incredibly peaceful with a big long table that looks out onto the river and across to the National Park. In the afternoons when it got too hot to hike, it was a perfect spot to read and play board games with the kids. Naura Roomstay is a couple of minutes drive from the "town" but there's not really much to do there, so we felt the location was perfect. Overall, this has been one of our best stays in Malaysia and we highly recommend it if you want to relax and experience the best of...
