We had 2 out of the 14 or 16 bunkbeds (devided into rooms with 4 or 6 beds) available at 330 RM for 3 nights. You have to pay in cash and there's no ATM in town, so come prepared. This is definitely a backpacker budget option, but it offers all you actually need. Despite having the road and port right in front, it was surprisingly quiet.
Note: there is no guarantee to sleep in the same room. Groups of 2 might have a chance, bigger ones are usually split.
There are 3 toilets and 3 showers with sinks, more than enough so that there's never a waiting line. You can use the sink and soap for dishes outside. Free cold and hot water refill and tea or coffee on the terrace. This is also the common area, with comfortable chairs and a great view on the river and Jason's favourite spot.
He's a help- and resourceful guy with years of experience when it comes to the forest and what backpackers need. His organized night tour was great and he offers the best prices in town for the long trek. When our shoes were soaking and wouldn't dry he had a shoe-hairdryerish tool to accelerate the process. He sells sodas and beers for reasonable prices 3/12 RM) as well.
I guess years of short and superficial contacts must be hard, but he was always friendly and engaged! Thanks for everything and wish you...
Read moreWould highly recommend this place if you’re going to Taman Negara - the rooms are super clean, and Jason, who manages the hostel, is a brilliant host, who remember everyone’s names. The facilities are simple but well looked after -the beds were comfy and the air con was great! Would 100% stay here again if I came back to Tama Negara. Me and my girlfriend felt very at home!
The tours were much smaller (and a bit cheaper) than if you book with one of the big travel agencies that run the buses to the national park, which meant they were more personable and enjoyable. The guides were excellent, especially our night walk guide!!! NKS and Han travel will stop you in Jerantut and try to sell you tours as you swap buses, but Jason had already sent us through his options so we knew they were better.
The hostel is in a great location - just seconds from the floating restaurants and the boat taxis that take you across the river to the national park. It’s social but in a very chill way - it was nice to sit with the other guests after a hike, have a drink and discuss what animals we saw in the park! Thanks...
