My wife and I arrived for a one week stay on April 4th 2025, just 3 days after its official opening. Excited to be staying in something brand new but also nervous at the same time that we’d end up finding defects with our room etc. as you often get this when taking delivery of a new property. Thankfully, that nervousness soon faded upon arrival as everything from check-in and settling into our water villa went so smoothly well, along with meeting the team of staff that couldn’t do more for you.
During check in you are given a “customer champion” to look after you - we had a guy called Mazin who was awesome!
THE WATER VILLA: We were assigned Villa #310 which is within the set of villas closest to the main restaurant. It had a lovely view (see pics) and extremely private.
RESTAURANTS: The are three restaurants to dine at. The main one is called The Gallery. It’s a buffet style eatery which doubles up as the main breakfast, lunch and dinner restaurant. 2nd on the list is The Blue Fin which serves À la carte. This is more boutique and classy, with great choices of dishes and super creative and tasty deserts. 3rd and finally is The Club. This small and upmarket place to eat is reserved for guests in premium villas offering afternoon tea and premium drinks outside of dining times
KEY FACILITIES: (1) Main Swimming Pool was massive with a great swim up bar at one end. (2) SPA was excellent and so were the massages.
OUR STAY: Overall our stay was magical. I’d go as far as saying, it’s been my favourite one week break away with my wife in the 12 years we’ve been together!
To summarize our experience, the best things about the resort are: 1. The People - you’ll love the customer service, simply the best I’ve ever experienced in all my travels. 2. The food - top notch quality and taste with some of the most interesting and creative dishes I’ve eaten 3. Super modern and beautifully furnished water and beach villas 4. Its close proximity to Male Airport 5. The privacy of the water villas.
THE NOT SO GOOD: Now although everything I’ve said above is very positive, there were a few niggles we had to deal with:
1. As beautiful as the swimming pool looked (all white and seamless), the steps in and out of the pool were virtually invisible and difficult to work out where to put your foot. After a while though you can master it. 2. Wifi service was intermittent at times 3. The exterior look of the villas were quite underwhelming at first sight. They all looked like utility buildings as you approach them as the AC equipment is quite visible from behind the slatted wall which faces you (same side as the front door) 4. The Door lock on our villa failed twice on the last two consecutive days of our stay resulting in us having to wait around 20 mins for new replacement door key cards to be delivered to us 5. There was odd breaks of the serenity and silence being broken by what I like to term “freeloaders” or better known as Influencers or Content Creators! They had been hired by the hotel chains social media agencies to come and create content to promote the new resort, but ended up sticking out a bit from the more ‘refined fee-paying guests'
TO SUM UP: So to sum up, should you;
• A: Pass on this new resort and look elsewhere • B: Consider it • C: Shortlist it • D: Go ahead and Book It
I’d 100% go ahead and BOOK IT. You’ll love every moment thanks to the world class team of associates they have working there and the food they offer. By the end of your stay you will come away feeling relaxed and itching to come back for your next vacation.
We’re already planning to come back for my birthday in late November, but I’ve told Andrew the GM that without his team he has now, the resort will be no different to the many new hotels that are opening up in the Maldives this year and during 2026. It’s his current team he has now that makes this place very very SPECIAL and for now he has a USP (Unique Selling Point) that will have guests flocking back time...

A special mention goes to Ms. Zuhro who was always there to support us throughout our stay. She made us feel completely at home and ensured that every detail was taken care of. It truly felt like we had the best of both worlds – luxury and comfort, just like being at home but even better!||The accommodation was spacious, clean, and well-maintained. One important note I need to mention is the privacy at the pool. We stayed in an Overwater Villa, and the privacy around the private pool could be improved — it felt more open than expected. The housekeeping service at the resort was generally very good — the staff were attentive, and the surroundings were well-maintained. However, there is still room for improvement in staff training, especially in terms of consistency and attention to detail. With a bit more focus on professional development, the overall quality could reach an excellent standard.||The food options were excellent, with a variety of international cuisines and fresh seafood. What truly stood out was the service – every member of the team was attentive, professional, and always ready to help with a smile. Every meal was delicious, beautifully presented, and served with a smile. The Manger of F&B at the Gallery Mr. Amal whose leadership clearly shows in the quality and coordination of the team, deserves special recognition. We were truly impressed by the professionalism and warm attitude of Mr. Amal. He was always present, attentive, and genuinely caring about guest experience. His dedication and personal touch made a big difference in our stay. Thank you, Mr. Amal, for your outstanding service! Dining at Centara Grand and especially at the Gallery was an experience in itself. Also, special thanks to everyone and to Mr. Hassan and the chefs in charge of sweets and Indian cuisine. ||We also had a great experience at the Club. Special thanks to Gift, Mitchel and the rest of the team, who were both incredibly friendly and welcoming. We spent a lot of time there and really enjoyed the calm, relaxing atmosphere and excellent service.||The recreation center team and the pool bar staff were also fantastic — always helpful and professional. Their friendly attitude made our stay even more enjoyable. The lively atmosphere and engaging resort program made our overall experience very enjoyable.||The SPA at Centara Grand Lagoon Maldives was absolutely wonderful. The atmosphere was calm and peaceful, and the treatments were very professional and relaxing. The staff were kind, attentive, and made the whole experience special. A perfect way to unwind in paradise!||Overall, Centara Grand is a perfect destination for couples, honeymooners, or families looking to unwind and enjoy the natural beauty of the Maldives with outstanding hospitality.||Highly recommended – we can’t...
Read moreWe recently stayed at Sentara Grand Lagoon in the Maldives and overall had a wonderful experience. The highlights of our stay included the exceptional level of service – the staff were incredibly attentive to every detail, making us feel welcomed and well cared for. Our villa was stunning: beautifully designed with modern decor, spacious interiors, and an impressively large closet. We also enjoyed having our own private pool, which was a lovely touch.||That said, there are a few areas where we believe the resort could improve:||Firstly, privacy in the overwater pool villas is really quite limited, as they face each other and the main resort, and each tow villas share the same wall! which takes away from the feeling of seclusion. The bath products had an unpleasant scent, and dining options were a bit limited – we believe restaurant stations like the Tandoori and sushi should be included in the main package reservation options. There were also too few buggies available to get around the island easily.||We also felt that some thoughtful touches were missing for a luxury experience. For example, a beach bag provided in the villa would have been very useful, and offering bicycles for guests would make exploring the resort more enjoyable. The coffee quality could be really improved, brewed filtered coffee is necessary to be available at least, and daily themed buffets would add a nice variety to the dining experience. The buffet felt Indian/asian all the time. ||Regarding staff presentation, the casual grey T-shirts and random pants/jeans worn by the staff slightly lowered the overall luxury feel of the resort. In contrast, the white and blue uniforms worn by the team at the airport created a much more refined and elegant first impression – something more aligned with the ambience expected from a high-end resort.||Room cleaning service also left room for improvement, as it felt a bit inconsistent at times. Lastly, a safety note: the design of the main public pool includes internal levels and sharp edges that aren’t clearly visible when swimming. I accidentally hit them multiple times and got hurt. It would be great if these were either better marked or made smoother for guest safety.||All in all, it’s a beautiful resort with a lot of potential. We truly enjoyed many aspects of our stay and with a few refinements, Sentara Grand Lagoon could offer an even more seamless and luxurious experience.|Soecial thanks to Mr. Amal, Gift, Mitcheal, Zuhour...
