We chose the Intercontinental Maldives for our honeymoon as we wanted to go somewhere exclusive, luxurious and totally relaxing - somewhere we thought would best represent our idea of what the Maldives should be like. The hotel undoubtedly ticked all of these boxes and exceeded our expectations, we can truly say we enjoyed the whole duration of our stay and were extremely disappointed to leave. If anyone is considering the Maldives, they should look no further than this incredible resort.
Thank you to our curator Dwi, who organised everything for us from daily yoga, restaurant reservations, spa treatments and even a few surprises throughout our stay - our favourites being the post-dive bath and floating afternoon tea. We didn’t have to think for ourselves once, something we really valued being on holiday, which is all down to Dwi and her amazing organisation.
Amenities such as the diving and snorkelling, as well as the spa and yoga offering, were impeccable and made a significant difference to our stay - experiences we will remember for a lifetime. Special thanks to Khalid at the dive centre who took us out two days to three beautiful dive sites and the marine centre team who organised a fantastic turtle snorkelling experience that we won’t forget; thank you to Seema who very patiently guided us through a number of yoga practices which we thoroughly enjoyed to start our morning and thank you to Nita and Sonam at the spa for the wonderful massage, we felt so relaxed!
Above everything else, the staff at the Intercontinental were by far the hotel’s greatest asset and every employee is a credit to the Intercontinental Maldives.
A special thanks to Ishaq and Atik who consistently went out of their way every day to cater to our needs, making our time on the beach and around the pool so enjoyable with their unwavering kindness and enthusiasm to get us everything from refreshments to towels, even when we didn’t realise we wanted or needed them ourselves! The hard work they put in all day, every day did not go unnoticed and our holiday would not have been the same without either of them.
To all the staff we had the pleasure to meet across the bars and restaurants - Goyani who from the beginning, was always there to greet us in the morning with a smile; Ali who took the time to showcase some traditional Maldivian cuisine and even organised with the chefs a special Maldivian breakfast for our last morning (so delicious and thank you to the chefs also); Jenif who we saw most days both at breakfast and dinner who ensured we were taken care of always; Ly and Kristen who were always keen to share their recommendations from the menu; Alok and Juli who most nights treated us to many of their ‘Maamanagau original’ cocktails at dinner, each more delicious than the last, along with Manoj, Darshana and Kishore who also served some amazing originals, thank you; and to everyone else we had the pleasure of meeting across the ten days who again, couldn’t do more for us and were consistently on hand - Fidan, Dinesh, Ashkaf, Gaukhar, Minu, Joy and Shithaau - we wish we could name everyone as the entire staff were fantastic!!
Finally, we would like to thank the managers we met - Mo, Aakash, Robel, Orhan and Benji - who would always found time to say hello on a daily basis and who made us feel like part of the Intercontinental family. The hotel’s manager Coetzer was also great, touching base throughout our stay and seeing us off on departure. The service we received and the friendliness of the staff was really like nothing else! Thank you to the entire Intercontinental Maldives team and if we can ever get there...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I recently stayed at the InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau (IHG), and may say, without embellishment, that the overall experience was simply wonderful.
From the very beginning, when the staff met our boat on the dock and showed us to our villa, we knew we were in for a special time. The sunset villa, cozy and decorated to reflect the Maldivian culture had, among other things, an infinity pool, overlooking the expanse that is the Indian Ocean. Countless hours would be spent lounging in the room, enjoying the warm breeze through the open French doors, periodically dipping into the pool, or the Ocean itself, by way of a nearby ladder. The tranquility only deepened as sunset approached, and watching the night sky from the pool, listening to the waves, is a memory that will not soon be forgotten.
Even outside of the villa, the attention to detail was exceedingly impressive and very much appreciated; for instance, even though we were only there a few days, the restaurant staff would remember our favorite table and drinks, and always had a spot waiting for us. Other employees were always available if we ever wanted a cart ride from one part of the island to another, although we quickly found that riding the bikes provided to each villa – with personalized initials – was our preferred way to travel about. And as we biked at night, staff would stop their carts and turn off their headlights as we approached, a level of thoughtfulness routine at this resort.
A discussion of thoughtfulness, however, would be incomplete without mention of IHG’s practice of assigning the guests their own “curator”, a host or hostess who assists in making the stay even more easy and relaxing.
Our curator, Mauvy, was an absolute delight. She went out of her way to make us feel comfortable and ensure that we were enjoying ourselves; she even worried that we missed breakfast one morning to catch an early scuba outing, and left us a variety of pastries and drinks (and after seeing that we had clearly been out in the sun, took it upon herself to bring us aloe vera). Any questions we had she answered, and would not only arrange our dinner reservations, but would meet us at the restaurant to make sure we were looked after. My girlfriend in particular very much appreciated that Mauvy would then take the opportunity to ask us if we wanted turndown service, while we were out of the room; we never had to worry about unexpected drop-ins. Her friendly personality and helpfulness greatly enhanced an already heavenly stay.
And speaking of breakfast and dinner – the quality and variety of food, for any time of the day, was spectacular. The seafood is a must-try, as is the shakshuka, my personal favorite. Also….do not pass up the “floating breakfast” (nothing more needs to be said, the experience speaks for itself).
Overall, we could not recommend the InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau highly enough, and look forward to going back. If you are considering going, you will not be...
Read moreI can’t describe enough the great experience we had!
From the time we landed till the emotional goodbyes!
We were well taken care of, spoiled and felt much valued in a way I never experienced in any other hotel.
Beginning from management till the cleaning staff.
We felt we were the only Residence in the resort everyone was always there just to serve with a big smile
Then there is the resort itself it’s a new hotel well designed and with a great idea of serving everyone as VIP guests in what they called an all club hotel, yes they do have club services for all the guests.
definitely It’s a small hotel with limited rooms in a way that they can give privacy as well as great service to all residents, they have a variety of villas you can choose between a beach, a lagoon or an over water Villa and even with those villas there are sizes if you are a couple a family or a huge group you will find something suitable for you. All villas are well designed with very comfortable bedding and furniture there’s always space to relax. For us as a family who loved to just hang around in our villa it was more than plenty we had a huge pool we enjoyed so much with a great view where we only saw the sea, and from that Villa we could see fish, They even provided snorkeling gear For all residents as part of your villa where do you can explore the sea and the fish by yourself.
Having that space and the opportunity to swim in the pool or the sea directly from our villa did not stop us from enjoying the sports and activities that were available at the hotel many were free Of charge but we chose diving which was our first experience ever and it was worth a try the staff were very helpful to give us a great memorable experience.
As an all club hotel you are always served with breakfast and snacks and a delicious afternoon tea but when it comes to meals they have three lovely restaurants We tried them all and to be honest every restaurant was better than the other we also tried room service twice and the great thing about this hotel if you want some thing that’s not in the menu or in the breakfast buffet they will cook it for you and this is what happened twice actually when we desired specific dishes we couldn’t find they were very kind to make it special for us even bring it to us to our villa, I love the variety of the food and cuisine’s they had seafood definitely they had Italian Asian Indian Middle Eastern and of course European cuisines.
As for the spa it was also one of my best experience they were very well trained and the place itself was an experience by itself having a massage facing the sea was something out of the world.
I don’t think you can get wrong about this hotel, I have traveled a lot, the closest experience for me was intercontinental Bora Bora, but this one was better indeed
Special thanks for staff who made us leave with extraordinary memories, a huge smile, and the thought of when is it possible...
