Avani+ Fares Maldives Resort — Hotel in South Maalhosmadulu

This is a superb place, highly recommended. We've stayed at a lot of five-star hotels/resorts, and this is amongst the best. There are higher end/higher price resorts in the Maldives but this is an excellent value-for-money resort. It's very stylish, well run, and welcoming.||Transfer to the resort - first class. Met at international arrivals by a representative, who took us to check in at the seaplane, and then a short bus ride to the terminal where we enjoyed the stylish and spacious lounge. We were told it would be 60-90 mins (there aren't fixed schedules for the seaplanes) but left earlier once the other guests arrived. Watching all of the seaplanes take off was a great experience. The seaplanes take 12-15 passengers. It is tight inside, esp. if you're tall and/or big. Take a portable fan if you get hot as there isn't the AC/ventilation you get on large commercial planes. The views are spectacular. Hold tight when you get off the seaplane as it is a bit bumpy given it's a platform in the sea. The welcome at the arrival jetty is very special (I won't say more than that!).||Ocean/reef: Stunningly blue, clear, warm water. You'll need swim shoes as there are a lot of rocks on the seabed. Lots of beautiful, colourful fish and some reef sharks; coral not as a colourful as we expected. Beware that the currents can be strong esp. if you're not a strong swimmer.||Weather. We were lucky that there was only the occasional shower. It was hot and humid - high 20s - but it was manageable by wearing light clothing, and avoiding too much sun between midday and three pm otherwise you'll get burnt. Wonderful blue skies every day. What more can you ask for!||Room: We stayed in a two-bed ocean view pavilion. Very modern, spacious, excellent facilities with trees in front (before the ocean) which gave us some cover from the heat.||Food: Buffet at Ocean Terrace is very extensive, lots of variety, and seafood (tuna, reef esp) very fresh. Very well cooked, with lots of flavours. ||Services. Spa is very good; lovely rooms and nice staff. Watersports have excellent equipment (e.g. jet skis, kayaks) but expensive (even for the Maldives). Boat trips - e.g. to turtles (we saw), dolphins (we didn't) - well run. Excellent, well-equipped gym.||Staff. The staff are wonderful. It's clear they look after them - there's lot of activities for the staff (football, beach parties, etc) and good accommodation we're told. It shows, as they seem happy.||Special shout-outs to:||- Heru, the sous chef. He was incredibly accommodating of our requests for special foods (e.g. vegan) and an excellent cook; a lovely person too. He should be at least a chef de cuisine! Thanks to Richard too for his overall support.||- Roshni, host at Ocean Terrace. Incredibly welcoming, friendly, and helpful. ||- Sonam, masseuse. Very kind, flexible, and skilful with my son who is disabled. A wonderful person.||- Son, the resort manager, was very engaging and warm (we didn't meet the GM) and dealt with a few issues very well.||Improvements||- It was disappointing to find the swimming pool (and restaurant) was closed for more than a week while we were there; we wanted to use it (as well as the sea). The alternative - a tiny pool in a lovely villa - was oversold as a substitute.||- They need more activities for teenagers (although we did visit during term time - our son is homeschooled).||- The resort could do with another eating spot. My recent vacation to the Maldives was an absolute dream come true, and I can confidently say that my stay at Avani Plus on the Baa Atoll made it the best trip I've had to this stunning destination. This was my third visit to the Maldives, and I can assure you that the experience at this resort surpassed all my expectations.

From the moment we arrived, the staff at Avani Plus were truly exceptional. Their warm and genuine hospitality made us feel like royalty throughout our entire stay. The water villas provided us with a slice of paradise, offering breathtaking views and an atmosphere of tranquility. Not only were they well equipped with all the modern amenities we could ask for, but the attention to detail in their beautiful decorations truly added to the overall luxury experience.

What impressed me the most was the level of service we received. Despite the resort having recently opened its doors, everything ran seamlessly. Our personal concierge, Arusham, went above and beyond to ensure our every need was met. His attentiveness and knowledge of the island and its offerings truly enhanced our vacation experience.

The wait staff in the resort's restaurants also deserve special recognition. James, Kate, and Yaz were always at our beck and call, providing impeccable service with genuine smiles. Their attention to detail, ensuring our dining experiences were flawless, added a delightful touch to each meal.

I must also mention the exceptional effort put forth by the general manager, Riaan. His personal welcome and involvement in ensuring our comfort and satisfaction were evident from the start. It's rare to encounter a general manager who takes such a personal interest in their guests, and Riaan's genuine warmth and dedication truly left a lasting impression on us.

Apart from the exceptional staff, the resort's location in the Baa Atoll is nothing short of paradise. The crystal-clear turquoise waters, pristine beaches, and vibrant marine life provided the perfect backdrop for relaxation and exploration. We enjoyed snorkeling, diving, and even indulged in some rejuvenating spa treatments.

I know this all sounds too good to be true. But seriously Avani Plus is a real hidden gem in the Maldives, and my recent trip there was nothing short of magical.
