Google Hotel Santa Fe Note: review very long and is by a fairly easy-to-please American. This would be 4 stars if not for the bed. See below. Hotel is located on a main paved road with little to no traffic. Tallest building anywhere around. Clean property. Friendly staff. Short ride from single gate airport was $23, I believe we got ripped off, but it’s better than walking. On checking in, the “concierge” (not associated with front desk) asked if we were members of Villa Del Palmar (we are; but detest this sales tactic when we are just arriving after 17 hrs of travel). This hotel is owned by Villa Del Palmar, the resort 30 min south of here with the new pga golf course. The concierge is right in the lobby so has access to guests to ask if they’d like free excursions in return for 90 minutes (4 hours) of your precious vacation time. WiFi exists but is moderately terrible. A permanent sign with WiFi username and password in the atrium shows their dedication to security and not periodically changing their password. —Smooth check in. We asked for a bellman since we had a ton of luggage (golf). There might be just one “helper/bellman/valet” for the whole place. I’m not sure if anyone else from our flight was staying at this hotel; even though maybe 200 got off the flight. (They werent here for sure; probably went to the resort directly. There aren’t many other places to go.) We arrived at 323 after a very small elevator took us to the 3rd floor. The door- very weird. It’s a sliding glass door with a locking cylinder with a card key sensor. Sounds high tech - believe me it is not. We needed a lesson from the bellman. I have a video of how to open it I hope I can post in this review. My review exceeds the character limit; so I’ll try to post to TripAdvisor. Basics: Staff is so friendly and helpful; not fast. This is a Villa del Palmar location so the concierge will ask you to come visit the resort 30 min south and take half your day. Attached restaurant is ok, go to Domingo’s steak next door. Room- quaint, dated. Very strange security on the sliding (main) door. We needed help opening. Bed is simply terrible. Pillows are as old as my grandma. Very clean, very thin walls. I said “bless you” to a neighbor. Small kitchenette, coffee maker (no filters), fridge, hot plate. Towels are always folded in pretty fans. Pool is fine; hot tub is great. Their Covid protocol is plastered everywhere but not sure they actually clean like the posters say. Staff wears masks. Largest building around. Malecon and ver very quiet town is a 5-10 min walk. If you want to get away, this may be a good option. Bring your own coffee filter, washcloths; internet is spotty and WiFi is sketch. Overall a 3, I’m probably too hard to please. Give me a thumbs-up if you...
Read moreStay/vibe|- Stayed as a family of 4 for a quick overnight imposed due to a flight cancellation.|- Booked a penthouse suite (1 of 2?).|- Courtyard/pool area looks really nice, perfectly channeling the surrounding desert-y vibe.|- Otherwise quite dated throughout communal areas and rooms, with clearly deferred maintenance.||Check-in/out|- Slow (despite zero queue in front of me).|- Average level of hospitality/hotel info provided (possibly due to still-developing English).||Location|- Short drive to the airport.|- A very long walk to the bay/Malecon area.||Room|- Absolutely horrible bathroom/living experience. Lost running water TWICE between 7-9:30pm. Showers produced only a dribble of water, and took 10min+ to “heat up” to luke-warm temperature.|- Rooms were very spacious and clean, offering average sleep quality.|- Interior sound carried further than desired inside the large penthouse (lots of old tile flooring and hard surfaces).|- Interior temperature was great; never tried to adjust it.|- Overall comfort was otherwise adequate, but sub-par for a “penthouse suite.”|- Kitchen was spare on kitchenware, and had basically no staples.|- Nice exterior seating area (didn’t use), which was also attached to the public staircase.|- Primary bedroom was a complete WiFi dead spot.||View|- Penthouse offered a view of the surrounding area, and courtyard.||Facilities|- Courtyard with the pool and hot tub looked really nice (didn’t use). Unsure about the practicality of the (loose) sand “flooring” around them.|- Looked like there was a convenience store and laundromat on one side of the hotel.|- Gated parking available in the rear of the building.||Food/drink|- Breakfast (included with our booking.com rate) was slightly above average, offering a fixed set of choices across pancakes/meat/eggs, plus fruit and refried black beans. No vegan option was available (fruit only, beans weren’t vegan). Server was very friendly.||Value for price|- Should’ve been good value, but given the issues with running water, showers, and WiFi dead spots, POOR VALUE.|- Would not return without the above being fixed, and...
