My daughter and I decided to do something different for spring break this year, and since we are both into healthy eating and fitness, a wellness retreat sounded perfect. Ruhksanas Retreat exceeded our expectations!
The property is simply gorgeous, with beautiful flowers and plants everywhere.
We booked the sunset room, which I highly recommend. Overlooking the town of Cabo and the ocean, the view is incredible. The room was large and comfortable. Note for this room the bathroom is open concept, including the toilet. The shower only has a rain shower head above, no hand or angled shower.
We just happened to book a week when there were no other guests so it was very peaceful. We started each morning with an hour long meditation led by Ruhksana, and then a yoga session with her daughter Sameena, followed by an amazing vegetable and fruit forward breakfast cooked by her husband. We felt very spoiled :)
The retreat is about halfway between San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas, up a steep hill, which we actually enjoyed walking for exercise.
I would recommend either renting a car, or taking the bus (very easy to flag down and the drivers actually will give you change if you dont have the exact fare!) We found taking Ubers very expensive, especially if you go out in the afternoon, return for a shower, etc and then go out for the evening. Its not hard to spend a minimum of 60++dollars CDN a day just on Ubers.
As for dining options nearby, there aren't really any restaurants within a walking distance, except a pizza place down the hill, and an exclusive luxury hotel across the street that offers public access to its restaurants, although they were closed for a private function the night we walked over. The retreat can provide dinners if booked in advance.
Overall, highly recommended and we hope to...
Read moreThis place is amazing! I came to do a "bliss therapy", which has three ayurvedic spa treatments. They allow you to come an hour before your treatment to spend time relaxing in the beautiful gardens. You can swim in the salt water pool, walk the labyrinth, do some reflexology or sit on a chair and admire some truly spectacular views.||||The bliss therapy starts with Abhyanga - Rukhsana and her daughter Sameena do a four hand, herbal oil massage (sesame seed oil) which uses a combination of choreographed strokes and intuitive movements that are designed to bring nourishment to the tissues, deep relaxation to the muscles and calmness to the mind. I'm pretty sure I fell asleep, even though I tried so hard not to. Next up was the Shirodhara - a simple, yet profound treatment that works specifically on balancing and stabilizing the activity of the mind. Warm oil is beautifully streamed over the Ajna Chakra or third eye taking the participant on a journey deep within. The oil kind of smelled like coffee beans and it felt like a warm massage on my forehead while Rukhsana massaged my feet to keep me grounded. It was heavenly. Last up was the Swedana. An exquisite herbal steam treatment which was supposed to leave me clear, rejuvenated and deeply moisturized. Medicinal herbs like Mint, Lemongrass, Lavender, Chamomile, Bay Leaf, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary helped to clear my pores, relax the muscles and nurture the senses. It felt like being wrapped in a warm hug for 20 minutes.||||After my treatments I was offered a chamomile tea, and the opportunity to nap outdoors. I was told to keep the oil on for as long as possible and given my own sample so that I can use oil after my showers at home! A wonderful way really focus...
Read moreSometimes you ask the universe and the universe delivers. Rukhsana’s Wellness & Heavenly Retreat caught my eye and I wanted, so badly, to spend some time there. Somehow, everything fell into place. The location was more than I could have ever imagined. There was beauty everywhere I looked. The lush gardens, full of exotic birds, invited me to wander every evening. The stone labyrinth was the ideal place for me to walk and gather my thoughts as the sun set. My beautiful room had a balcony that offered the most amazing view of the ocean and sky. In addition to all of this, I was in the care of Rukhsana and her husband, Arshad. Rukhsana provided spiritual guidance after each morning’s meditation. It was as if she knew exactly what I needed to learn at that particular time in my life. Arshad’s cooking was amazing. Healthy food and healthy portions met me every morning after meditation. Both of them are truly gems. I cannot thank them enough for the huge and powerful gift they gave me when they opened their doors to me. It was magical, it was beautiful, and it was the true definition of what a blessing really is. I could write quite a bit more, but suffice it to say that if are in need of a yoga/meditation retreat, look no further than this place. Bliss has a name and an actual location on our planet. And this...
