In a nutshell: 2-3 star hotel where you should spend 1 or 2 nights max if you have to. Thanks to incompetency of my travel adviser (see my review https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g1028202-d23510676-r869242881-De_viaje_por_Chihuahua-Chihuahua_Northern_Mexico.html?m=19905) I spent there 4 nights. The hotel is situated on the middle of the small town. The scenery is beautiful. The town is located on the banks of the river surrounded by hills covered with forest. The beautiful church built in 16 century is the main town feature. The hotel is right next to the church. It has its own vineyard, about 40+ rooms, a small pool, saloon, etc. Here are few positives and negatives about the hotel:|a. Positives:|i. Excellent restaurant. The food is delicious, I would say unexpectedly sophisticated for the small town.|ii. Very responsive staff. I had some challenges with my tour operator and the lady at the front desk went out of her way to help.|iii. The hotel offers local tours at very reasonable price: walking to the waterfall, Gallegos overlook, Urique tour, etc.|b. Negatives:|i. No WiFi, no connectivity whatsoever. They claim that this is because of the location, and yet there is a small store nearby where you can buy temporary access to wifi. The side effect is that your Google translate does not converse. That leads to the next problem.|ii. English is non-existent at the hotel at all. So, if you cannot communicate in Spanish, then you are out of luck.|iii. The room heaters are wood stoves. It is pretty chilly at this altitude in November. So, to get through the night you need to burn wood in your room. The hotel personnel starts the fire for you. Within an hour it becomes uncomfortably hot in the room. Then, within another hour or so, the room temperature goes down and room becomes comfortable enough for the night.|iv. In my view the hotel is hugely overpriced for what it is.|v. During my stay there was 12+ hour power outage. Based on the written comments from the guests, it is not uncommon.|c. Tip on how to structure your visit: on the day of arrival do the waterfall walk or a wine tour. Both are optional, but you want to occupy the afternoon somehow. Next day: morning - Gallegos overlook. The overlook is a must and the reason you came here. It is impressive. After you finish you 100 photos at the overlook, continue you transfer to another location. IMHO, other local attractions (e.g. Urique tour; I did them all) are not worth the time you...
Read moreI loved sitting on the porch outside my room looking at the vineyard, the flowering cherry tree and the golden dome of the mission church. This is a one level hotel arranged around two courtyards - one with grape vines. There is also a lovely little heated outdoor pool and a game room with a fireplace. The combined lobby/dining/sitting/bar area is cozy and comfortable. ||||The room decor was OK - not great. The only problem with this hotel is that my room was verrrry cold. During the day I would open the window to try and get some warm air but I was not very successful. The fire in the evening was great but it burnt out very quickly. I either had to wear a coat or get into bed. There were plenty of bed clothes and I slept well. ||||The food was very good. I don't know how much it cost because I was on a tour. A glass of wine cost about $7.||||Like others I took the waterfall tour with 70 year old Juan who is a character. I didn't understand much but nonetheless the walk was great fun and the waterfall is impressive. ||||The village needs to do some work to make it more of a tourist attraction - emulate El Fuerte. It has the advantage of the charming little mission church which is better than El Fuerte. Set up some other little walks - like one to the white cross on the hill; perhaps the hotel could bring in some musicians in...
Read moreDisappointing! We did not stay in the hotel, but I wanted to treat someone for a nice dinner while we were in Cerocahui for 2 days. The restaurant/ lobby got very nice deco and we thought we walked in for a feast. There's only one menú, set dinner : 1.soup is good, 2.main course is steak. They didn’t ask how we want it cooked. the meat is tiny, no more than 150g, it is well done, but the good Chihuahua vaca saved it. not bad afterall. the beef is on top of a big paste of home-made másh potatos, well made, which filled us up. 3.Dessert is a kind of pecan pie, my companions said it’s great. That is all for the menú and costed Mxn590 per person! We asked for more bread, which is good house made, and they charged for each tiny plate. Wine is almost 200 for 1 glass of local made wine. Beer is 89 for a normal 335ml bottle. So I was really ashamed to treat friends with limonada. the total bill for the 4 of us is Mxn3314, and I could not even get a copy of the bill as the cashier was awfully busy on the phone. The waiters are attentive & proper though. A side note was that in the restaurant, there was only 2 tables of no more than 10 guests, so you can imagine?? Side note : the cheapest room in Hotel Mision is about 5000 pesos, while we stayed in a nice homey family hotel for only 1000 pesos...
