I had stayed at this hotel about 7 years ago and loved it. The hotel has not changed much over time and is still a lovely place to stay. We booked two rooms, rosa and sirena, the same rooms we stayed in before. Rosa is larger, but both are very nice and are located upstairs next to each other. The gardens of the hotel are beautiful and breakfast is plentiful and delicious. We had requested guide services for a tour around the lake for one day and were told that Alejandro was available to take us on a 6 hour tour of the lake. He was an excellent guide, although when we returned there was a problem in payment to him as the hotel had quoted a rate for the full 6 hours (which actully ended up being closer to 5) and they had not told us that this did not include gas and use of Alejandro's car. We had assumed that the rate quoted was all inclusive (as it usally is with these types of tours) so both we and Alejandro were left feeling a big upset. We eventually settled on a slightly higher rate, but I would advise any people booking tours to be aware of possible miscommunications and to assure that everyone is on the same page regarding costs. We also had booked some of the nights through booking.com and some direct with the hotel and were told for the latter that it would be cheaper if we paid cash, which we were willing to do via PayPal. However, when all was settled it turned out that the booking.com rate was cheaper than paying with cash, so we decided just to pay via credit card for the entire stay. Victoria, the owner of the hotel, was charming as always and gave us a number of recommendations for places to eat in town. We were lucky also to be there for the Santo Semana festival being held in the central park, very close to the hotel. Patzcuaro is a lovely city with many sights to explore. Casa Encantada is a great place to stay to take advantage of all the city...
Read moreWe have stayed at Casa Encantada at least seven times over the past nine years. We love to stay here because the central location allows us to walk everywhere, return to the sublime courtyards, gardens or our room for a rest, and then set out again for restaurants or festive events later in the day or evening.
Luis and Victoria are perfect hosts, providing accurate information for nearby pueblos, sites, and restaurants. The generous breakfasts are different each morning and feature typical Mexican fare with a variety of tantalizing egg dishes, fruit , enchiladas or traditional specialties, and fresh aguas frescas. Not to miss is the huge traditional Mexican kitchen with stately pottery dishes and baskets of fruits, tomatoes and avocados, all on display each day as you walk through the gardens to your rooms.
We have had exceptional service, especially from Luis who helped us with a reservation snafu (our mistake); he quickly found us nearby accommodations for a night until he had space for us. And he still insisted that we should show up for breakfast even if we weren't able to stay that night at Casa Encantada. Patzcuaro is a lovely pueblo to visit any time of year, and to experience it completely, Hotel Casa Encantada affords...
