EDIT: No longer a Hyatt! Hyatt has excluded this resort from its properties! Not associated with either ALG or Hyatt! It is no longer a franchise of Hyatt. Sort of like an expensive Motel 6. While it rained the entire time we were there, I will not degrade the resort for that. The ocean was also in its "trashy" phase, so I won't degrade for that either. I WILL degrade for the other stuff. So anyway, our room was pleasant, in an old Greek sort of way. It was a nice room, but old. It'd been refreshed, but the bones were still old... as in noise from adjacent rooms and obviously repaired or replaced areas. Both sinks were very slow to drain, the one TV in the living room had a very poor signal while the bedroom had a great signal. Weird. Still though, the room was pretty decent. It did take three attempts to get a bucket of ice though. The Plunge Pool was nice to look at, but the rain and cold kept us at bay forever. The visible grounds were quite attractive, as long as you stayed completely way from the beach. Ugh, what a disaster. The Usable beach was approximately 4 meters by 20 meters, and maybe eight old decrepit loungers and then there was the trash... Sure, the mad ocean had something to do with it, expelling all the trash that humans have dumped into it... The seaweed was quite a bit, but no faults there. It was obvious an attempt had been made to clean up everything as there were tracks in the hard ground along it. Again though, the trash. Cups and sandals and spoons and bottles and forks and plastic bags and whatever else could be there was there. Again, the ocean likes to puke, but come on... I went a day later and the same trash was in the same place. COME ON! Spare one person for an hour and CLEAN UP a bit! Okay, it was raining. Still though, looking away from the ocean on the beach was a huge disappointment. There was a berm where the ocean carved out the shore.... again filled with boards and logs and rotted fronds and whatever. It seemed there was no effort whatsoever in keeping any of that area decent. Quite the departure from the rear of the resort, where everything is. A nice pathway leading the entire length to all the rooms. Great! If you want a ride in a golf cart, you can do that. If you DO walk, be prepared to step off the path to let the carts go by. Still and all, not horrible. Also it was still very pretty on that back side. The pool? Yes, there's A pool. Right in front of the lobby. It looks nice, but don't expect any privacy at all. The food at the one restaurant that was open (maybe because of all the rain) was the KAAX. The food was REALLY good. It was more on the FooFoo side, but very tasty and more than enough for a meal. The food staff was usually pretty good, sometimes taking a bit long, and not much of politeness at some instances. The House staff was..... well, lacking in any Give A Crap. They mostly made the motions, but you could tell they'd rather be somewhere else. SO, even though the weather stunk and the people to some degree could have been nicer, and the room maintenance taken more care, and the beach side totally revamped into something useful, and for criminy sakes, Clean Up The Trash! I may have given this place a better rating even though I expected (much) more than what I got (other Zoetry resorts we've been were very superior), but we had just arrived from Secrets Akumal and that place was FANTASTIC in every regard. What a let-down arriving and an old worn-out Zoetry. It made us both sad. BUT, if you like the old, you will enjoy yourself if you mostly want to relax in your room. Another thing though... there is an Impressions area with newer suites that I never bothered to explore (even though we are Impressions) so that may be a superior area but you must also have Impressions status to even book it. For a summary... An older, somewhat abused although pretty place with mostly nice staff and still great food. Certainly not up to what I'd have expected from the name...
Read moreI would highly recommend this Zoetry hotel. My wife and I went here on our honeymoon last week! Here is a breakdown of our experience:
The Ambiance - 5 out of 5: If you are looking for a smaller quant boutique feel, then this is a great option in the Cancun/Riveria Miya area. We probably only saw about 100+ people the whole time. We loved the cultural vibe of this hotel. There are beautiful Palm trees everywhere. If you love wildlife there are peacocks and iguanas roaming the property.
The Room - 4 of out 5: We had a spacious ground floor room with a plunge pool and an outdoor shower. We loved that we could walk to the beach right from our room. All the rooms have an ocean view and we could walk very quickly. Also, the rooms are relatively close to the front desk, restaurants, and pool.
Our room had a nice open living room with a TV, a desk area, a spacious bedroom with another TV, and a big bathroom with two sinks, a shower, a bath, and an outdoor shower. The bath although looks uncomfortable, was actually really nice.
The reason for only 4 stars here is because of the updates this room could use. The blankets and couch pillows could all use an update without losing the feel of the room. With a few upgrades to the couch cushions and bed comforter/blankets, this room could be a 5-star room.
The Food - 2.5 out of 5: Here is where the hotel is really lacking. I was excited to do an all-inclusive resort. I knew I wasn’t going to be getting 5-star food but I was very surprised by how bad some of the food was. Let’s say we ate 20 meals in a 6-night period, I would say 10 meals were good. Nothing was spectacular, 10 were solid, 10 were bad.
It’s as if the chefs don’t season the food with anything. We’d order a nice steak, ask for medium-rare, and comes out well done, but the biggest issue is that they don’t season their meats. No salt, no pepper, nothing it seems. Many of the dishes look really good but then you wonder where all the flavor is.
My recommendation would be to try one of everything or close to one of everything so that something hits and you find a good dish. Hedge your bets that way :)
The Customer Service 5 out of 5: Everyone on staff is very kind and friendly. We had Adrian from the Concierge help us a lot with booking massages, snorkeling, taxis, and excursions and he was great to work with. Very friendly staff all around. They seemed to be slightly understaffed at the restaurants but they were always friendly.
The Pool - 3 out of 5: The pool was nice, it has a few big shallow areas to sit in the water and 3 deeper areas. The biggest drawback is that there is no outdoor hot tub by the pool, only in the indoor spa. We really wanted to go in a hot tub at night but they don’t have one.
They also don’t have enough seating around the pool to accommodate enough people. We sat by the beach every day anyway so that didn’t bother us a ton, but it is a factor.
The Spa - 3 out of 5: Don’t get the massage. We did the couples massage. Mine was decent but not great. My wife didn’t like hers. Her masseuse used her elbow to press into her back/ribs. Very little massaging and kneading was done. The free Hydrotherapy which was nice had a 10-minute massage at the end and that was a better massage than the $400 massage that we paid for.
There is a gym, which their website doesn’t show. It has enough stuff to get a decent workout in. The cold plunge pool and indoor hot tub are nice. It could use some updating, it feels older but it’s not a bad spa. The saltwater pool outside was nice.
The Beach - 3 out of 5: This beach is great but there is a ton of seaweed in this part of Mexico. The hotel does a great job trying to clean it up daily with a tractor and crew but the water is more red than turquoise. If you are looking for crystal clear water I hear you have to go north of Cancun not south where this hotel is.
Overall, we loved this hotel. It isn’t perfect, but it’s great for that boutique hotel...
Read moreit’s been 3 weeks and we haven’t heard from GM as told and have not been offered a reimbursement for the minimum days that the incidents took place. We left early because of our safety and they never offered to reimburse us for those 3 days
I’m not one to write good or bad reviews at all. But I feel called to, so I can share my honest experience at Zoetry Paraiso De La Bonita . it’s important to note, as a couple, we spent well over 5k on our trip as well as well over 1.5k on shopping at the property, and tipping the Zoetry workers over 20% EVERY TIME they assisted us with something whether that be giving us a ride to our room, bringing food to our room, making drinks, restaurant tips etc.
Cons: Day 1: Upon arrival room wasn't ready for 5+ hours they take your luggage upon arrival, this is an issue because: On day 3: -after leaving our do not disturb sign, letting staff and office know we didn't want anyone coming into our room at any time & didn't want cleaning services, someone came in when we were gone and went thru our stuff (We have proof and showed managers) On day 4: -drunk staff on the job that flirted and touched me inappropriately at the restaurant Misc complaints: small portion size for food plunge pool is not even mediocre no snacks or other food options after restaurants are closed rooms are NOT thoroughly cleaned or COVID compliant other negative reviews on here are COMPLETELY ACCURATE. We left a day earlier to get home asap!
Back story: On Day 1, upon arrival we had just got there from an international flight and our room wasn’t ready. We were notified by Brandon that our room would be ready in an hour or so, that then turned into a 5 hours wait, in our dirty clothes worn for over 11 hours, and sleep deprived.
Throughout our stay the food was always mediocre, small portioned, limited menus that were very repetitive, and always left me hungry for more food. By day 3 we had come back from another excursion (which were the highlight of our stay thru AMSTAR) and we noticed someone was in our room while we were gone from 6am-10pm. We personally requested with Brandon to not have any housekeeping throughout our stay & didn’t want anyone to have access to our room as we also placed the do not disturb sign on our door the first day & left it there throughout our stay. It was confirmed by Marco that a housekeeper must’ve entered our room because we found rags that were not there before that only housekeeping uses, a room that was not cleaned at all, the safe open, and our security device tampered with and moved. Thank goodness we brought our expensive belongings with us to our excursions. An incident report was filed, and because of the long process we missed dinner and went to bed eating only fruit. The next day we missed breakfast due to oversleeping since I couldn’t fall asleep because I felt my safety & comfortability was compromised. By dinner time my S/O convinced me to go to dinner at the grill overlooking the pier, he brought along our backpack with our valuables. We sat down and instantly realized the server was BELLIGERENTLY drunk, couldn’t stand, couldn’t hold a conversation to take our order and kept trying to touch me. We immediately went to the office to speak with the manager. We spoke with Maria & Frety Alvarado, other workers stated they’d didn’t know co-worker was drunk & because of uncomfortableness we did not have dinner. We went to bed again eating only fruit. The next day we spoke with the other couple who was harassed by this server as well and found out the worker asked the couple to have a drink of their alcoholic beverages, touched the woman inappropriately as well, and the couple had notified the employees prior to our arrival. The workers knew he was drunk and did absolutely nothing until I complained to the human resource manager & office manager. At that point I was ready to leave, scared, uncomfortable, and frustrated because none of incidents...
