We are frequent travelers from the USA. We travel to Cancun, Isla Mujeres, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, etc. for the awesome beaches and the beautiful Caribbean sea. However, Cancún and and the surrounding areas are getting way too crowded and prices are expensive even compared to american cities. Enter playa miramar in humble Tamaulipas.
Opening around April—June of 2023. Soleare is the newest addition to playa miramar. We loved that the rooms are brand new. The finishes are modern and clean, the beds comfortable. All rooms have an amazing ocean view. The WiFi is very fast! Perfect for streaming movies and shows or working remotely. The restaurant was very tasty, offering breakfast lunch and dinner options. The food was fresh, well seasoned and cooked. The service staff were excellent. Prices were about what you would spend eating out at a good restaurant in the USA $10-$30 USD per person.
Areas of improvement: We'd like to see mini-fridge for sure and microwave as a bonus in the rooms. We love to keep our bottles of water and sodas ice cold. It's so disappointing to drink room temperature water in the sweltering humid heat of Tampico/Madero. The restaurant asked if we wanted a take out box for our leftovers but... Where would we store them in the room without a fridge? There are no palapas/umbrellas and chairs on the beach property of the hotel. It was a minor inconvenience to ask a staff member to carry chairs and an umbrella out there for us. Additionally it would be great to include some form of a clothesline or hanging rack for clothes on the balconies. After swimming in the pool and the ocean we had many pairs of swimsuits to dry. We had to hang clothes over the beautiful glass guardrails. I think this cheapens the look of the rooms and the hotel overall. Lastly, the pool water was looking a bit murky and dirty. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. We also noticed that dozens of seagulls and pigeons drink from the pools all day. They would leave poop all over the concrete Edges of the pool. Many times they pooped into the pool as they flew over. We were concerned they would poop right on our heads. I don't know if parasites from the birds thrive in the pool water, just thinking about it made me want to pull my family out of the pool. There must be a solution to keep the birds away from the beautiful pool. Some form of technology, ultra-high frequency sounds that humans cannot hear or something as simple as having a staff member that chases birds away. If not, surely some staff members can daily sweep up the dried fecal material up from the pool area.
Finally we get to price. The hotel is very pricey for a hotel in Mexico and even the USA ($280-$350 USD per night). It is more expensive than some of the all-inclusive luxury resorts we have stayed at in Cancun. For the reasons I've outlined above and considering the price I cannot give it more than 3 stars at this time. There's huge potential to be an amazing luxury hotel right on the beach. Do not get me wrong, I will be back to give it a second chance. I would be more than happy to update my review next...
Read moreToday is our last day and we are ending our stay on a high note. We are in complete agreement with prior comments of this hotel and its potential to become a very luxurious hotel. Being native from the Huasteca, I have a better understanding of the obstacles to achieve so, however, the quality in the service compensates a few things to improve in a facility that reflects the effect of the pandemic and the local circumstances. Needless to say, the service was up to the standard of luxury. We were so unlucky to start our stay with bad weather and therefore, spend more time in the rooms, resulting in a few things to fix. The moment we reached out to the front desk about it, they addressed with no excuses and great attitude of service. Therefore, I would always suggest to any future guests to feel free to speak to the staff and I am sure any matter will be resolved. We truly appreciate the kindness and level of service offered. The food is fairly priced in comparison to European standards and the flavors made me feel like home, with high quality local ingredients and a very particular touch on the simplest things like...

Me encantó!
