Galopina was such an incredible experience, if you are considering booking this just go for it, it's a truly magical spot with gracious caretakers. Located down a quiet jungle road you'll find a small boutique hotel with only five suites on the property. The main home is open for all guests to enjoy meals and lounge on the couch or read a book, it's like having an entire villa to yourself. The main house also includes a beautiful outdoor pool shaped in the style of the natural cenotes that surround the area. The rooms are perfect, spacious with jungle views, decks or patios, and like everything on the property impeccable attention to details to make you feel like you are in a world class hotel. The tranquility of the location and thoughtful touches made this such an exceptional place to stay, I only wish we had more time to explore the trails, lounge by the pool, star gaze, you get the idea. Additionally they make you a delicious breakfast everyday ours included avocado toast, fresh fruit, yogurt, coffee, and freshly squeezed orange juice, it was the perfect way to start busy days of exploration. There is also a well stocked beverage/bar area where you can grab, beer, wine, soda or fix yourself a drink. And! If you want dinner the amazing host Elisa will fix you a 3 course meal tailored to your diet and preferences (you just need to let her know in advance:) these were some of the best meals we had on our week long trip to the Yucatan and are so grateful to have gotten to taste her amazing cooking. We traveled from NYC to celebrate my partners 30th birthday and I cannot imagine a more perfect spot for the occasion, many thanks to Elisa and the entire staff we hope to return one day and hope you will have many new visitors in...
Read moreHad an absolutely amazing stay at Galopina for 3 nights. The property is gorgeous and very peaceful within the jungle setting. We stayed in the Chel room which had its own balcony which was great for birdwatching at sunrise. The pool was also the perfect size for a dip and we spent much of our time there in the mornings and afternoons with the walls providing the right amount of shade.
Breakfast was simple but fresh and tasty and the dinners were amazing! They really tasted like you were over at a friend's house for a dinner party and it was so refreshing having such delicious yet wholesome meals after a long trip.
The whole team were so friendly and the dogs and cats were so cute. We will miss them greeting us every morning! The hotel is about an hour out of Merida so it's a bit of a trip to get back into town but there's activities that can be arranged nearby (cenotes, ruins, architecture tours) and honestly, we didn't even want to leave the place because it was so perfect and felt like heaven. Elisa helped arrange transport from Merida for us and to Plantel Matilde which was much appreciated.
Already planning our next stay and next time we will be staying for much longer. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing holiday with warm hospitality. Our favourite hotel...
Read moreUpon leaving Galopina, we decided that it was one of our favorite places we have ever stayed. At first, we were struck by the aesthetic and mood of the place - the architecture is impressive; the design and furnishings are impeccable and effortlessly cool; the way the plants, trees and cacti all enhance the aesthetic, and even the music that plays in the evening sets quite the mood. And certainly, we were continuously awed by this throughout of stay. However, we soon realized that the real charm of Galopina comes from the owners and staff, the dogs (especially Chilito) and how the place invites you to take a break from frantic sightseeing and really relax. The food prepared by Elisa and team is delicious, like refined home-cooking that included many fresh fruits and vegetables - something we had been craving after so much conchinita pibil, haha.
I realize that in many rave reviews, including this one, the tone can be one of over-excitement. I think it is merited in this case. For us, Galopina is exactly the type of place we search for in our travels - a place that feels authentic, welcoming, impressive, and charming. I couldn’t recommend it strongly enough.
Don’t hesitate -...
