My husband and I stayed at this hotel as part of our anniversary trip to France and Monaco. The hotel was very nice and just as pictured on the website. The front desk staff was friendly and did offer us an upgrade on our room, which was nice (though the room didn't seem that different from what we selected). Our room was clean and had a nice balcony with a pretty good view. We had notified the hotel it was our anniversary and didn't receive any acknowledgement of that, which was a bit surprising.
We spent most of our time in Monaco relaxing and utilizing the spaces at the hotel like the beach and pool. Both were very nice and enjoyable. We did, however, find the service lacking. We spent two pretty full days at the private hotel beach and were not asked once by staff if we wanted drinks or food. Each time we wanted something we had to go to the bar, which isn't a huge deal, but seems a bit odd when most of the staff was just standing around as the hotel appeared to not be that busy during our stay.
Our biggest issue came when our room wasn't cleaned two of the four days we were there. We had to call the front desk to get it cleaned, which I've never had to do at a hotel before. On both of those days we left the room in the morning and spent all day at the beach and pool and came back to find our room hadn't been cleaned. We DID NOT leave any sign on the door. This was frustrating and we were offered nothing but a sorry on the phone.
When we returned home we wrote a review on Trip Advisor and the staff responded saying we left a Do Not Disturb sign on the door and they contacted us and we said we wanted the room cleaned in the evening. All of that is false, which makes me even more annoyed by the situation. No sign was left. And we contacted them to get our room cleaned on two separate days. They did come clean it in the evening, but that was because no one cleaned it during the day and that was only after we called them. The fact that the staff responds to reviews with lies is unacceptable. This shows extreme lack of service and attention to detail. This has also made me not want to return to this hotel and not recommend...
Read moreWe stayed here for three nights in late May of 2012 right before the Monaco Grand Prix started.
Over all this is very good hotel, however, you should temper your category 6 expectations. I would note that the view is spectacular IF you are facing the right direction, which we wear. Also, the morning breakfast is also very good with a good but limited variety of choices.
I was a Plat and I didn't get upgraded to a suite, the claim was it was all booked solid but the hotel traffic would suggest otherwise. However, I didn't harp on it. I was also on the 4th floor, a non-SPG floor, which was a little odd too.
We were in the Design room, which I have to say is very cool, but the washroom/shower area is not "designed" well at all! The shower is a semi open concept and the water gets everywhere in the whole washroom area. Other than that, everything room-wise fine.
I should add the in-room service was very prompt and accurate which was very nice (however, that would also indicate low-occupancy rate).
The location and accessibility of the hotel were also very good and we didn't have any issues with that, nor did we have any issues with the concierge, which was very informative and polite.
Although the front desk staff was not operating at a category 6 standard! We didn't feel particularly welcome and were dealt with in a very mater of fact kind of way even though the check-in and check-out was not busy at all, again suggesting low-occupancy. ;)
Anyway, over all this is a solid hotel that I would visit again but it has room to get better, especially if it stands at a category 6 standard, which it barely met in my opinion, with the exception of the location and the...
Read moreAbsolutely terrible experience. I’ve stayed at at hundreds of Marriotts. The pictures of this one are far from reality. The hotel is severely run down in every aspect (dirty, rusty, smells like a hospital). We shortened our stay by one night within 1 hour of stepping foot on the property. When we arrived early we were immediately met in the lobby by several employees who told us how wonderful the hotel restaurant is and how famous the chef was. This was the first disappointment as we paid 40 EUR for a burger with soggy lettuce, cold bread with hardened garlic butter and old grocery store tomatoes. The burger patty was shameful. McDonalds is far superior. After lunch we checked into our hotel room. Within 10 minutes I went to take a shower and there was a knock at the door. Someone dressed as a hotel employee said they wanted to come into the room to drop something off. I told them to come back later but instead they tried to aggressively charge into the room. I yelled and pushed the door back closed. Fortunately I had the deadbolt engaged. The person ran and was never seen again. The front desk said that nobody was expected to come to my room. I hate to think what would have happened if I hadn’t had the deadbolt engaged. The balcony sliding door couldn’t be opened. The front desk manager also couldn’t even figure out how to work it. And the shower water spilled out of the shower and flooded the whole bathroom (within 5min of turning it on). The only redeeming qualities were the concierge and Joshua, the front desk manager, who profusely apologized for our experience and who came to our room to record all...
