Getting cold feet at the idea of doing a 5-day trek, we thought this mountain lodge might be the perfect base for day trips. To check it out, we had someone (who speaks Berber as well as French and English) call. The answer? “Send us an e-mail.” So we did. The answer? “Dans un premier temps, nous vous donnons ci-dessous les différentes prestations (celles en option comprises) et leurs frais.Vous pouvez composer vous-mêmes un forfait adapté à vos besoins et à la durée de votre séjour. ||Communiquez-nous les détails des prestations demandées et nous vous enverrons un devis et dès réception de son acceptation de votre part, nous vous enverrons une confirmation définitive de votre réservation. » In other words, « We have no idea. » In fact, when we arrived, we found no information at all on day hikes and no one who could tell us. The brother and sister who manage the lodge were lovely people and tried their best to be helpful but spoke probably fewer than 5 words of French and we speak even fewer of Berber.||As well, we were t old the road there from Skoura was “a very interesting road” and that because it was paved, we wouldn’t have any trouble. The facts? It took us 6 hours to drive 136 ks, and what wasn’t mentioned, was that you have to ford a river to get to the lodge. So, I won't recommend it, unless you have a...
Read moreWhat a difference! After three days in Marrakech we were picked up and the taxi (organized by the casbah staff in advance - email works perfectly fine!) drove us to the remote valley - just amazing! Very relaxed and friendly staff, the food was really good and truly Moroccan - a pot of mint tea at all times, even when we didn't ask for it (We probably looked as if in need.) |If you want to hike, you are at the perfect place. Ask for Mohammed as a mountain guide. He even speaks some German, French, some Spanish, no English though. Supernice and knowledgeable. The people in Ait Bouguemez are very helpful but not at all intrusive. Actually they are so busy with their daily live that they obviously have no time to be too interested in some strange tourists. There are some really small! shops close by where you may buy water, cookies, fresh fruits and vegetables and canned food. The only snag: Only a very few people do speak a language other than the local berber tongue. So be prepared for some hands and feet conversation! However, in the end we got everything we needed.|We will definitely come back for more hiking, but not in August - even at 2800m altitude it was quite hot and there are almost no trees to spend some shadow. The valley itself is very green and...
Read moreThis beautiful, very well restaured kasbah is located on the top of a hill in the beautiful green Ait Bougmez valley. Thanks to the hight over sea, it is agreeable cool even in a hot August as this year. You can see the kasbah from far, because it is an ancien Agadir (water reservoir) which his very kind and open owner, Ahmed, restored carefully. Each room has a shower with warm water. We had a personal cook as there were not many people. He always cooked very good and fresh food, big size, we could choose if vegetal or with meat. To start, we got a soup, then a tajine and then fresh fruits from the valley with a good tea. The breakfast is typically maroccain with excellent fresh orange juice. We got free tea and some cookies when ever we got back, tired from a hike or an excursion. We went to the interesting souk (30min walk from the casbah) and did a 7h hike with good pathes to the tizi n'ait imi, where we had a wonderful view. I would recommend to take at least 4 nights, as the driving there from Marrakech takes some hours and because its ideal to relax and stay for a while.||We thank you Ahmed for the explenations about the country and the way people live in this beautiful valley!||Martina and Dominik from...
