My 2nd stay in Essaouira and Sofitel Mogador was again a delight. A wonderful hotel in magnificent abundant nature with very friendly staff who fulfill your wishes and needs as best as possible. From heartfelt smiling Imane, who was preparing me such a perfect omelett every morning, to Rashid the always so helpful manager of the pool bar to - to the great waiter in the a la carte upstairs - unfortunately dont remember his name - and Mariam at reception... just to mention a few of the so many engaged people in this hotel I came across but dont remember all their names... Everybody seems happy to work here and is very client-oriented. On my 2nd stay last week I was suprised with a room upgrade, so this one had an even better view, ocean view, but all come with sea nature sounds. With my friend about 3 weeks ago we had the garden view room and that was exceptional too. It was even closer to the nature and had slightly louder sea sounds to wake up to... And big window fronts on both to have a great panoramic view and to wake up to nature's sounds and the dozens of seagulls flying over the premises... Just beautiful... And those of you have slept in Softel Hotels before, know they have the best beds on earth. You just dont want to leave them and stay under their comfy blankets and enjoy the view n sounds :)

I love the walk to the beach. Not many seem to take it. Good for me ;)... It's about 15mins and a tranquil walk through nature. A camel tour can be taken right there before you reach the beach. The beach!! Amazing and empty and seemingly endless on this side... You walk left and it's just you, sand and the sea... You walk right and you walk to the city of Essaouira, while looking onto the Island Mogador. It takes you about an hour... For runners - great conditions to run !! The beach gets busier at some point of course... with more camels, quads, horses, surfers and kite surfers... I highly recommend the walk to both sides. Essaouira is indeed a magical place. A quaint small town, with a pretty harbour and in opposite to other Moroccan Cities even the vendors in the Medina are relaxed and not pushing you to buy or lure you into their stores. Just really relaxed. Nice little restaurants, old n new, chilled friendly people, nice hamams. Just love it. Back to the hotel: Amazing stay and value for a 5 star hotel. All of the 3 restaurants serve delicious food with great service. The 2 a la carte Restaurants as well as the restaurant that serves the breakfast and evening buffets. All great choices and exceptinal quality and as said earlier very engaged employees everywhere. The amazing big pools were a little chilly - but even for Oct/Nov ok for me to go in and swim a few lanes. I love esp. the nature pool and its calming waterfall n nature sounds... (there is a warmer indoor pool in the spa in case one finds the outdoor ones too cold in autumn / winter times).

Travel: I flew both times into Marrakesh - the 3hrs by Supratours comfort bus with a stop in the middle is a great way to travel to Essaouira. You see goats in the Argan Trees, enjoy the Atlas mountains and changing landscapes on the way. Plus the comfort bus comes with seats you can lay in - the normal one is fine too. But since I experienced the comfort one now, I dont want to go back :-D. My friend came from Paris and had an even easier and arrived at the little airport of Essaouira which is I think just a 15mins drive to the hotel. Of course they offer you a shuttle. As well into town by the way there is the "Navette" shuttle that goes every hour into town and every 30mins back to the hotel. Thank you so much to all staff for another great holiday at Sofitel Mogador !!

I def. come back again !! And bring...

Heartfelt Gratitude to the Incredible Hotel Staff

Dear Hotel’s Staff I hope this message finds you in the best of spirits. As my stay at Hotel Sofitel came to an end, I wanted to take a moment to express my sincerest gratitude to each and every member of the Hotel staff. Throughout my time there with my family, we have been continuously impressed by the outstanding level of service and hospitality provided by the team. Your warm Smiles, unwavering dedication, and attention to detail have truly made our stay a remarkable experience.

From the moment we walked through the doors, we were greeted with genuine kindness and made to feel right at home. The seamless check-in process and the extra effort you took to accommodate my preferences did not go unnoticed. Your professionalism and courteousness have set a standard that other hotels should aspire to achieve.

I would like to extend a special thank you to the housekeeping team (especially HAYAT and FATIMAZAHRA la gouvernante) for maintaining our rooms impeccably. Returning to a clean and comfortable space after a day of exploring was truly refreshing.

The dining experience at Hotel Restaurant was nothing short of delightful. The culinary creations were a gastronomic delight, and the waitstaff's graciousness made every meal even more enjoyable. (Special Thank you to The Pastry Chef MOHAMMED ELARBI, your talents are nothing short of extraordinary. Chef executive YOUNNES, for the seamless coordination between the staff and attention to details. CHAFIQ, MOHAMMED, NACER, LOUBNA and the rest of the team for their contributions to making every dining moment a memorable one.)

Additionally, I am grateful to MOHAMMED BARGHA for his invaluable assistance in helping us navigate the city and providing excellent recommendations for places to visit, and the exceptional service provided by him, who went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction.

I want to extend my gratitude to each member of the security team especially FOUAD for their dedication and commitment. Your tireless efforts often go unnoticed, but they are vital in ensuring that guests like us have a safe and enjoyable stay.

Last but not least, the efficient and friendly front desk staff ( AMANI MOHAMED, INESS and ACHRAF ) deserves a special mention. Whether it was assisting us with travel arrangements or promptly addressing any inquiries, they always did so with utmost courtesy and efficiency. The professionalism and efficiency displayed during the check-in process with INESS were truly impressive. You went above and beyond to ensure a smooth and hassle-free arrival, and your attentiveness to my preferences and special requests did not go unnoticed.

Your collective efforts have left a lasting impression on us, and we will undoubtedly cherish the memories of the stay there. We will not hesitate to recommend Hotel Sofitel Mogador to friends, family, and colleagues seeking an exceptional hospitality experience.

Thank you once again for your dedication and commitment to making our stay unforgettable. Each one of you is a true asset to the hotel, and your hard work is genuinely appreciated. Wishing you all continued success and happiness in both your personal and professional lives.

With warmest...

The only thing worth the while in this hotel is their Buffet restaurant (great cooks/food, great background music, and good service) + the Ocean/Golf view from the rooms. Other than that, our 5 days stay wasn’t worth the price we paid nor the time we spent there, hzre are some major elements to be more explicit: Rooms: were full of mold, showers had sewage smell and quickly flooded over the room floor, Summer insects everywhere (mosquitoes and cockroaches). The TV is configured in a way not to allow light setting changes or timer (which is not understandable, when u watch TV during night time, u want to set the brightness to low and set the timer to sleep). No laundery bag in the room.

Customer Service: The service was bad, they didn’t take into consideration the request that we made and insisted on two days before check-in (a simply No Mold room) + reception doesn’t answer the call quickly, u gotta wait around 1 min on the phone ringing + room service is not responsive (u’ve got to recall and ask more than once for most of the things u request). Cleaning: When it’s cleaning time, they take the used towels, but don’t bring u clean ones until u get to call and call again later during the day. Entertainment: There was no marking Summer entertainment as one would expect in a resort and the game room is open at night but with no games to play 😅 an 8-pool table without balls, the babyfoot without balls, and the table tennis with no raquettes (it feels like the hotel has stopped investing in entertainment). Pools: the bio-pool looked disgusting and not really inviting for any swim. And the central pool was OK SPA: not sure it can even called a SPA anymore, shocking very used and needs repairs and reconditioning, expensive prices for the current state of the place, no surprise why we found it empty with no customers, who would want to adventure in mold land? — Conclusion: All in all, great food, this hotel is not Luxury at all and doesn’t abide by the Sofitel Standards (customer service was bad, moldy rooms have to be reconditioned as they got used over the time and the sea exposure, halls walls have to be reconditioned, and they need to invest more in entertainment) WE DON’T RECOMMEND STAYING IN THIS HOTEL. Rather go stay in a suburban villa if u are looking for the calm, or in the medina of Essaouira if looking for an authentic welcoming...

15 years ago this hotel might have been superb, now the hotel it is worn down and is poorly run - Cats are allowed into the indoor restaurant and allowed to eat from plates, when guests are away from table - Birds help themselves from the indoor breakfast buffet - Used marmalade glasses at the table - Pie with mold at the bottom - Cutlery taken from the table is not replaced, no chance to help yourself with new cutlery - No napkins at the tables, napkins are stored away from guests - Table surface not clean, no tablecloth either - Men’s bathroom at the restaurant runs out of paper towels - Restaurant prices: mediocre buffet 250 dh, local beer (0,33l) 50 dh - Unreliable and poor Internet bandwidth, not sufficient for video conferencing - Room service knocks at the door and walks right into the room, without awaiting confirmation, caught us in underpants (happened twice) - Bicycles may be used in the hotel compound only and need to be rented at extra costs - One bottle of wine as a welcome gift was removed by room service after the first day - No means of transportation to the city except for public taxi - Access to the beach requires an at least 45 min walk including climbing over a huge sand dune as the whole compound is fenced in - Sliding door broken, cloud not be locked (was fixed during dinner) - Not ecological, no LED lights and apparently no solar power - (I do not mind the Plasma TVs and Bose Sound System with Apple 30 Pin connector) Update: Hotel manager thanked me for valuable feedback, apologized for the inconveniences and says he will work on issues. The wine bottle has been brought back to our room, however, we will not be able to open it, as there is no corkscrew in the room. Neither is there a knife to cut the pineapple. I have the impression that there is a serious lack of dishes and cutlery in the hotel. At the buffet are always just a few (mixed) plates and bowls and no cutlery available. ACCOR Management in Paris seems to starve this hotel to death. Update II: No more water, reception does not answer phone. Water restored after 2h. Update III: Bed broke down Update IV: See recent pictures, toilets without toilet paper and more

During my stay at the Sofitel in Essaouira, the highlights included the room’s comfort and cleanliness, which were exemplary, creating a welcoming and pristine environment. However, the dining experience, particularly dinner, was disappointing. For a 5-star hotel, I expected high-quality meals, but the dinner offerings fell significantly short of this standard. In fact, I found the food quality and taste at a simple restaurant in Essaouira city to be superior, leading me to dine outside the hotel for the remainder of my stay. Staff interactions were a mix of positive and negative experiences. While most of the staff were hospitable and friendly, an unpleasant incident where a manager publicly scolded an employee, along with some disrespectful behavior from certain breakfast staff, dampened the overall impression. The hotel’s amenities, including a variety of activities and the beautiful views combining forest and sea, were definite positives. The check-in process, though, could be more efficient as it involved a considerable wait. In terms of value, the hotel balanced cost with the overall experience, but the dining aspect was a notable letdown. My likelihood to recommend the hotel is neutral, taking into account both the positive aspects and the areas that need improvement, particularly in dining and staff behavior. A minor yet noteworthy downside was the outdated TV in our room, lacking modern features like internet connectivity, which might be important for some guests. In summary, the Sofitel in Essaouira offers commendable room comfort and cleanliness, along with beautiful views and amenities. However, the subpar dinner experience and certain staff behaviors detract from the overall experience in a 5-star establishment. This makes it a potentially suitable choice for visitors to Essaouira who are willing to explore dining options outside the hotel.
