Only two hotels (Royal Hinthar and Haung Tharaw) in Mawlamyine accept the local travellers from Northern Shan State (13/ NRC holders). The hotel staff are friendly but we had an awful experience during our one night stay at this hotel. We (four girls) encountered a police inspection around 10 PM because one of my girls was from Northern Shan. A military soldier with a gun, drunk police officers and other female officers were also standing in front of our room and asking us too many stupid questions like criminals. We ain't doing anything wrong but they threatened us not to go around. Be careful with your visit to Mawlamyine if you hold the Northern Shan NRC card at the moment.
