Great place. Inexpensive if you just show up, potentially a tiny bit more booked through HostelWorld, or a tiny bit less booked through Agoda. Spacious, simple, friendly staff, and quiet.
Downstairs: two mixed dorm rooms with 2 bunks/4 beds. Each bed has a plug with a clip lamp plugged in and 2 USB outlets (you can unplug the clip lamp). Bathroom- 3 clean shower/toilet stalls for guests with three sinks. (There is a 4th but just for staff).
Upstairs: 1 male and 1 female dorm room. I think each one has 3 bunks/6 beds. Each set of two is curtained off. Each bed has a plug with a clip lamp plugged in and 2 USB outlets (you can unplug the clip lamp). Upstairs bathroom: 3 clean shower/toilet stalls for guests with three sinks.
Breakfast: coffee (powder/sachet), banana, green tea, mediocre Shan noodles.
Quiet place, nice staff. Good location: outdoor market is a block away, mini mart close, night market in walking distance, and jetty about 1km away. Shared boat trips available @6000pp.
As of Dec 2018, boat trips are 15000 (for the whole boat) without Shwe Indein Pagoda. However it is a must see and the best thing you'll do - 3000 extra. Tips are appreciated and 1000 is enough. Fake fisherman ask for money for posing- they are the ones in faded orange. Makes a good photo- up...
Read moreNice location, it's literraly central of nyaung shwe. So if you are coming from the night bus, it's only 5 min walking distance. and it take 10-15 min walking distance to the jetty, depending on your walking style.
The room is clean, with bunk bee style. For girl only room, you'll still get a privacy, because they divided the bunk bed in three smaller room.
And the communal room is huge! both on the down and upper level. Bathroom is clean, they have 3 bathroom-slash-toilets in each floor. with 3 sinks each..So shower etc has never been an issue. The shower pressure is also strong with hot water works all the time.
They serve shan noodle for breakfast. If you have any nut allergy, you need to pass.
The staffs are very helpful, although only those who wait as the reception who speak English well. But overall, all of them are striving for the guest comfort.
I used booking dot com and i paid $10, but the signage outside, they advertised as $8. But it's low season, i guess. Plenty of vacant room. So i think, coming on the spot will be...
Read moreI stayed at three hostels in Nyaung Shwe over seven days. This one I stayed at for three of those days so I guess I liked this one best! Actually they were all excellent, just differently so. This one is best if you want to chill and relax. The rooms are very comfortable, the shower is powerful and hot/cold as you like. I like it because it is a lovely old-ish wooden building - it feels like an authentic Burman house. There's a balcony above where you can sit out and watch the world go by and a couple of nice spaces within to relax also. It is in a great location for getting to the boats, arranging travel or obtaining a bicycle - whatever you fancy. The breakfast is simple but good - bananas and shan noodles - it's fine. The staff are ever so helpful and best of all it's considerably cheaper than the other two!! And i assure you, having tried all three, there is no dip in the quality of accommodation - they are all of them very pleasant...
