This Mountain Star hotel is an excellent hotel for anywhere (let alone Taunggyi) with amazing views from the rooms. The staff were helpful and had no issue registering us foreign tourists. Our suite had a huge lounge and two bathrooms.. and two TVs!|The bathrooms were new (everything was new!) and sparkling clean with separate shower and bathtub even.|When the city power went out the generator was started straight away, but there was an electric "hurricane lamp" in the room just in case. We got free bottled water daily, which was handy.|It was great weather in Taunggyi when we stayed so we barely used the aircon but it seemed to work well. Heaps of power outlets in the room too.|The location is excellent, walking distance to markets, cafes, bakeries, the main street, even stationery stores are right outside.|We only stayed two nights and didn't get time to check out the rooftop but it was supposed to be very good.|We're looking forward to staying here again one day next time we visit, and hopefully for a lot longer! Couldn't...
Read moreMy first visit to Taunggyi and to this recently opened hotel. Big rooms, everything looks new and clean. Rooms on 2nd to 8th floors are for guests; bar and restaurant are on 9th floor. Room rates include breakfast and wifi. Each room is equipped with a heat pump for heating/cooling. No central heating/cooling system. Hot/cold shower, but no bathtub in "Superior" rooms. "Deluxe" and "Suites" have bathtubs. Asian and Myanmar style buffet breakfast is served. Continental breakfast including tea/coffee, oats, corn flakes, bacon, eggs and local tropical fruits and juice are also served. Streetside visitor parking available. Also, there is basement parking for about 15 cars. The entrance to the hotel lobby is not wheelchair-friendly, but there is a ramp for luggage handling which can probably be used for wheelchair although it's not designed for wheelchair use. About 10 minutes walk to City Square Shopping Centre, market and food stalls. Reasonably priced, friendly, polite and helpful staff, great service, I had a pleasant stay. Highly...
Read moreI stayed in Mountain Star Hotel for 4 nights. The room is perfect with a nice view and everything you need is inside it. Every room has very large glass window instead of a wall it is what I like to enjoy the panoramic view of Taunggyi by sitting in a comfy sofa in the room in the morning. Bed is also comfortable. Breakfast is western and local buffet served on the roof of the building where you can see the whole town. They also help you hire a private car with a driver. It is very convenient because hiring a car is the only way to tour the city where no buses and less taxis can be seen and nearby attractions. What I like about the location is it is not situated in the middle of the crowded Taunggyi market. I cannot imaging staying at a hotel beside the road because of the noise 27/7. It takes only 7 minutes to go to that market. I was surprised that how such a great hotel could be that cheap as low as over 30 bucks and offer the best service compared to the ones in neighbouring Thailand. I will definitely stay...
