Myanmar Life Hotel — Hotel in Yangon

We booked one night at Akore Myanmar Life Hotel. We just arrived from a 6 hour bus ride from Ngwesaung Beach. We only booked an overnight stay since we were flying to Bagan the next morning. ||When we checked in, we were given room 522. As soon as we entered the room, we were hit with the strong odour of mildew. We noticed major black mold stains on the wall under the air conditioner. |I immediately notified the bellman that this was unacceptable and that I was going to speak with the front reception clerk. |When I explained to her that there was a strong odour and visible mold on the wall, she asked me to wait 10 minutes to check for an alternative room. So my wife and I decided to get a bite to eat in the hotel restaurant. We ordered a seafood and glass noodle salad, brown onion soup and burger and fries. Salad was way too spicy even though we asked the server for not too spicy. ||I returned to the front desk and was offered a different room on the same floor. Room 525. Again, as soon as I opened the door, I was overwhelmed with the strong mildew smell. |When I returned to the front desk, I was offered to try room 525. Seriously? If 522 and 525 had a strong smell, then why bother trying a third room? That was it for me. We ended up booking another hotel. In the end, there's no way I am willing to accept a mouldy hotel room. ||I highly recommend hotel management have an independent mould specialist examine some of the worst exposed rooms to determine mould spore contaminants and an action plan for removal. ||There's lots of hotels available for travellers. Best to stay elsewhere until this health issue is...

We stayed 4 days in this hotel. Punctual airport pick up, check-in, getting us to the room was perfect and smooth. Super friendly staff, amazingly kind owners. We got the colonial wing with a pool view on the second floor. Well kept rooms, quiet and clean. Quality mattress and pillows, soft bed linen.||Breakfast was fine with various dishes and fresh fruits. Meticulously maintained fresh seawater swimming pool, the pool staff tended to keep it clean, there was a smoothie bar by the pool. The owner has built a meditation center and we witnessed how the staff uses the meditation center daily, very impressive.|| Just a 10 minutes walk to many restaurants if you do not want to eat at the hotel restaurant. We enjoyed the relaxing time of two days before we flew out of the country, to our amazement we were blessed with free of charge two total free days when the owner learned that we missed our flight. We have traveled to numerous countries this is the first time that an owner personally attended and showed kindness and hospitality of this caliber.||||Would recommend this place to anyone who comes in or goes out of Yangon. Unforgettable experience of kindness from the management and a very professional friendly staff. ||So many sitting areas under the trees by the pool and by the statue of Mother Mary. Bedsheet and pillow cases are very old and spoiled. I asked the guy to change it. He just said ok, and he did not come and change. The compound is big, and it looks like very nice from the outside. The breakfast buffet is not good. Nangyithote is no taste. Not much choice to eat. At that morning, my mom's heart rate was very fast. She can't go down and eat breakfast Buffet. I requested the restaurant guy to send breakfast to the room. He said he would send breakfast after 8:30 am and need to pay 2000 kyats. I requested again to send as much as early because she must eat something for medicine. He said you can choose fired rice or nangyithote and coffee or juice. They will manage to send the rest of the food. They sent breakfast that included nangyithote, coffee, and fruits only. The hotel gives shower gel, and shampoo is an individual pack. For two persons, they give two only. When I take a shower, this shower gel comes out from the bag, which is so little amount for the upper body part only. Should not be providing like that. The hotel fee is not so cheap. We paid the market price. The good thing is that the fridge is bigger than the other hotel. The receptionist is nice to communicate.
