We arrived at the Sossusvlei Lodge as part of a tour group. Accommodations are set up like a village of small lodge units scattered along the desert property. Each had a covered patio with chairs, nice to use during evenings or cooler mornings. Our unit was furnished with double beds, a couch, a coffee table, a large desk with bench, a refrigerator, and an open wardrobe with shelves plus a safe. Air conditioning was good enough to keep the main room cool, but struggled when the bathroom door was open. The bathroom did tend to heat up during the day. Tip: Keep the bathroom door closed when cooling down the main room. The bathroom was good sized with a bathtub, double sinks, large shower, and toilet. The units provided a comfortable spot to relax after excursions out in the Sossusvlei desert. ||There is a nice bar with an upstairs sundowner deck to enjoy the sunsets or sit under covered sun chairs during the day. Attached to the sundowner deck is an observation tower to climb for even better views of the surrounding desert or the evening sky. Behind the bar is a small pool in a grassy area surrounded by covered sun chairs and a shaded beer garden under an acacia tree. Across from the bar is the restaurant area, and a large outdoor terrace mainly used during the cooler parts of the day for breakfast and evening dining. Meals were served buffet style with a wide selection of dishes. One could choose from chicken or African meats like kudu and springbok or local African fishes like hake and kingklip. ||The lodge also schedules activities and the group enjoyed both a scenic flight over the Sossusvlei dunes and a sundowner/desert drive. Service at the lodge was good and attentive throughout our stay. Overall a great stay in the desert at the...
Read moreDo not recommend this place. They do false advertising- there is no cooler box or fridge in the rooms and the staff advised that there has never been.|All the food and snacks we brought with for our 2 year old went off due to this as it gets unbelievably hot. ||We got told when we arrived that we have to drive 7km’s to another camp for breakfast every morning and on our second night for dinner aswell which we where not informed about on booking and its not advertised like that either. ||We have not once been offered a kiddies menu after we specifically asked when making the booking if it is kid friendly. In fact tonight my 2 year old was not offered any food at supper at all and had to sit and watch how only her mom and dad got served a starter and mains whereby we got up and walked off. I requested to speak to the manager but she did not even acknowledge me at first as she was too busy chatting on her phone. All she could say is she will enquire with head office and then offered to make my 2 year old supper at 20:30 at night.||This has been the worst experience on our holiday in Namibia and unfortunately the beautiful views does not make up for it. ||The only person that has given us good service is Jooste who offered to put our babies drinks in his personal fridge even though we don’t have access to it when we want. It is the thought that counts. ||Also we are staying in room 31 - the shower is blocked and takes about an hour or two to let the water out. Also the one basin in the room could not be used as when you open the tap the water runs straight down into the cupboards and onto the floor - shocking for the amount we get...
Read moreWe were self drive and wanted somewhere close to the National Parks gate to see Dead Vlei and the dunes. Location 5* very convenient. View from the pool and outdoor dining area lovely. Rooms 4* aging but very good with aircon Facilities 4* Pool very good after a hot day but sun loungers have seen better days and need replacing. Nice bar area but staff unsure of what went into the cocktails and no details of what they were on the drinks menu!! Food 3* - really very average and got up to 3* thanks to the evening BBQ of various meats. Appreciating the remote location but no excuse for packet and tinned food dominating the buffet and desserts all out of a packet and tastes like it too. Only fresh items were fruit salad. Buffet was left out in hot room for 2-3 hours with no fan or aircon, then left overs represented the next day with added ingredients and more tinned or bottled sauce added. Very unappetising given this is supposed to be a 4* hotel, had better and fresher in a 3*. Kitchen needs a shake up on all levels . Thank goodness for the BBQ . Breakfast - one person on the BBQ trying to do bacon and eggs - queue about 20 deep !!! Staff 3* not very enthusiastic or welcoming and we had to clear our own dinner plates. Early breakfast no tables laid on the terrace so took our own cutlery outside. Just not good enough. Reception staff average but surly chap on check out - needs a reality check about customer service. Gardens and plants - 5* Needs designated smoking area. An average experience and...
