A hotel that doesn’t care about its guests. We chose and booked this hotel because we had previously stayed at the same chain in Canada. But this experience was completely different. My friends and I came to spend time in Amsterdam. We were drawn in by the beautiful hotel photos, but reality was nothing like the pictures. The booking was for 4 people, in a two-room suite. When we checked in, there were only 3 towels in the room-one large and two small. (The standard is one large and one small towel per person. Instead of 8 towels, we had 3.) We requested more towels, and they did bring some, but it was clear no one checked if the set was complete. One of the “towels” was actually a bath mat (are we supposed to dry our faces with that?). There were no robes or slippers in the room. When we asked why, we were told, “They’re only available in the suite.” But we were in a suite! Management, please double-check, rooms 105 and 105A, are those not suites? The condition of the room was like a central train station. The walls were dirty and scribbled on, the armchair was torn, and there was a puddle under the kettle because it couldn’t hold water. The tea was awful-cheap and low quality and left a nasty black residue in the cup. The staff was completely uninterested in helping. There was one guy from Ukraine who really tried to assist us, but it was clear he wasn’t in charge. The location deserves a separate review. It’s in an area full of auto shops and scrap yards, surrounded by highways and stacks of wooden pallets. We didn’t feel safe walking there at night.
If you’re planning to get there using public transportation, keep in mind that only two options serve the area: bus 357 and tram 25. However, the 3-day public transit pass doesn’t work on bus 357 you’ll just get kicked off. And tram 25 might not even show up at all. We wasted money on passes we barely used, and ended up paying €40 for a taxi into Amsterdam-one way. The view from the room was either a rooftop or a car repair shop. The room was old and worn-out.
I do not recommend this place and we will...
Read moreHotel bed is soooo comfortable, but hotel is out of the way on an industrial estate. Tram 25 stop is 5mins walk which takes you into Zuid station where you can change to metro 52 to get to Centraal & under the river to Noord. A GVB multi day ticket is the best way to get around. It covers Tram 25 ( even though outside Amsterdam area), metro & busses within Amsterdam. We got a 72hr one for less than 20 euro. You can purchase them in Bruna bookshop at Schipol airport next to the "trains, tickets & information" area. (Hopefully see photo attached). This DOES NOT get you to hotel. Instead, take bus 199 from outside airport at stand B5 to Westwijk shops for 3.5 euro per adult, (takes 25mins) & then a 10min walk to hotel. You do not need to buy a more expensive ticket regardless what the train staff tell you. The GBV ticket starts when it's first used. Tap on to tram & & metro & tap off again. It does not cover trains, but you don't need to use trains. |We didn't have breakfast at the hotel as we thought is was pricey. There's a couple of supermarkets & bakery etc at the Westwijk shops which are an easy walk. The hotel provides only 2 coffee / teabags per day. If you want more, you have to buy them from reception, so maybe take some with you.|Overall we had a great stay, reception staff spoke good English & we hired a couple of bikes for 3 hours....
Read moreThe only positive aspect of our stay was that the room was very spacious; everything else was a disaster: The quality of the breakfast was poor. On the first day, we arrived at 10 am (breakfast is served until 11), and there was absolutely no food available. We were told that there had been two large groups at 8 am, and at 10 am they still had not managed to restock. To make things worse, the staff member told us it was not her problem that there was no food, that they were short-staffed and it was the hotel's fault. This was a very unfortunate situation and a poor comment to make to guests. On the second day, we arrived at the same time and this time there was food, although the quality was still bad (and it costs 16 euros per person!). But on the third day, again there was no food available. They said the hotel was not very full and asked us to tell them what we wanted without knowing what was available, so we had to wait another 15 minutes for breakfast.
The staff attitude was absolutely indifferent; I don't know if it is because they are poorly paid, but it was the worst service we have ever had in a hotel...
