Canadians think twice before staying here!
My family and I spent the week here last week for my oldest daughter’s birthday. We’re Canadians of Caribbean decent (speak primarily English). Upon arriving it was revealed that everyone staying here had to pay an “entrance fee.” $100 US?!? 😵Although we had initially paid for the ultimate all-inclusive package, certain restaurants were still trying to make us pay for certain types of food and than staff lying, claiming they weren’t aware when approached by management. Speaking English seems illegal as most of the staff speak either Dutch or Portuguese and (we heard some Spanish as well amongst them) typically refused and/or acted like they didn’t understand what you were saying when ordering food or drink. Even our travel agent from Air Canada stated “You’re forcing me to speak English!” Ridiculous! 🙄 Most of the guests here were of Dutch or German decent that week and were fully catered too. The staff could speak English but fully frowned upon it, and we were treated as second class citizens, while everyone else (the Europeans primarily) were waited on hand and foot. There definitely seemed to be a lot of racial undertones here. The food was mediocre especially for a Caribbean country. Little of any cultural food was served and again catered to a more European palate. We’ve travelled to a few other Caribbean nations in the past, and this was by far the worst showing. The bartenders were rude to us on a regular basis, serving others before us even if we were there first; dirty looks, and speaking under their breath (again only nice to the European guests). The maids were nice for the most part and our room was kept clean every day! Unfortunately this resort is not near the beach (which we were aware of prior to booking) but the shuttle runs only once to get you there in the morning and won’t come to get you until later in the afternoon. As for all other excursions (Catamaran, ATV rides etc), you must find your own way for the most part (and apparently the taxi cab fees are well over priced). Renting a car is your best option for getting around if you feel comfortable navigating an unfamiliar terrain. For those with younger children, there is a kids club however if they are younger, you the parent may have to stay with them. All instruction is done in Dutch or German though. That goes for other night time activities as well, which weren’t really much of anything. My daughter naturally rolls with the punches pretty well, but it was very unfortunate they refused to speak in English during so she too could understand the various games, dances etc. easily, as all the other kids spoke fluent Dutch and/or German which they only catered towards. They had no problem inviting us in perfect English on one of our last nights there though, but once there, we couldn’t understand a thing and they didn’t as simple as that! Rude! 👎🏾 On top of that on her actual birthday, the power went out due to a heavy rainfall and no one sorted it until most of the day was done! The pools were okay but after a couple days you could tell all the kids we’re getting restless and bored. The staff cleaning them while the guests were in them telling kids to move out the way when there’s selected pool times is completely unprofessional! Garbage laying in and around them that we were picking up everyday left from days before, come on now! Bottom line, the tropics are beautiful but at this point I’m not planning on visiting this country again. As a Canadian, the resort wasn’t very welcoming at all to us which is so not typical for other Caribbean nations, as we accept all countries and cultures alike! Plus all those hidden fees were beyond ridiculous as the base cost for a week there was already enough as it was! I will not come back to this resort and will caution my friends, family, fans and affiliates of the...

This is absolutely NOT a 4-star hotel, not just in my experience but in what that means. I debated about 2 or 3 stars. I’ll start with the positives. My kids (6 and 7) loved the on-site water park, that there are multiple water slides, and that there are no age or height requirements for the slides. The mid-island location was nice for visiting beaches all around the island (we rented a vehicle). Balconies are reasonably large and have space to hang wet clothes. Negatives: this is not at all luxury. There is no real lobby. Even if you offer money, no one will help you carry bags up the stairs. The rooms are very basic and some of the windows only have wooden slats so you cannot ever fully close out the outside noise or air. Our room in building K also backed the back of the kitchen and we often smelled trash or sewage if we opened the bathroom window. The mattress was very old with very worn grooves. The power went out very often. Of our 7 night stay, I think only our first night didn’t lose power. Sometimes it was a fast flicker but often it was 10-30 minutes. At one point (with the power on) our AC stopped working and when we told the front desk, they said there was a long maintenance list so it would be a while. Thankfully it started working again about an hour later but no one ever followed up with us. While writing this review. The power has gone off and on (mostly off) at least 5 times. Also, the steps are extremely slippy when wet. During a light rain, while holding to the hand rail and walking slowly, I fell twice. The drinks are generally very weak and watery. The food is edible but not great. The buffet area is small and the only option breakfast lunch dinner apart from 2 times when you can go to another predetermined meal. At the buffet you have to go outside to order a drink. No self service drinks (even non-alcoholic) apart from breakfast. Breakfast was actually pretty good. I’d very much consider this a large hostel that happens to have several pools. There is supposed to be snacks available between meals but we waited 90 minutes for chicken nuggets for my hungry 6 year old and still they weren’t ready yet. Other times we tried to order snacks (within poster hours) we were told “no” without further explanation. We enjoyed the island but our stay was much more economy than we expected. I did not realize that Wyndham Trademark was such a low-end experience. We don’t require butler service and we knew we weren’t paying for Sandals but I expected staff to be courteous and at least pretend to be content being there. The pools were the only reason we didn’t change hotels by day 2. Out kids had made friends and wanted to keep having pool time. And the power has gone out again and now people are screaming outside (almost 10pm). Oh also, the bathroom sink plug is stuck down and barely drains.
Overall 4.5 for the water park if you have kids 3-10 year old. 2.5 for hotel...

The slides look fun but there were two slides that I would get stuck in and would have to pull myself down the slide. Multiple pools for varying ages (I believe there were 5 in total).
Staff was okay but none of them felt super friendly with the exception of the female staff member who checked is out at the end of our stay.
There is a security guard that maintains control of the front gate 24/7.
Food was okay but you will definitely get bored and you will probably want to eat out every now and then to spicy things up.
The nightly entertainment at the pizza restaurant (limited pizza options but all inclusive as well) was pleasant but nothing spectacular.
Additionally, they often ran out certain food items (specifically the snacks served in between breakfast, lunch, and dinner).
As for the alcohol, it is all inclusive but cocktail menu is limited and they often ran out of items to make some of the drinks.
Rooms were perfect but be aware the is only air conditioning in the bedrooms. The common areas (living room and kitchen) are not air conditioned and you will have to leave windows open. We had no issues with mosquitoes during our stay and we had our windows and doors open the entire time. Also, another important detail is that rooms are only cleaned 2 times a week (not an issue as long as you clean up after yourselves).
Location is okay but you definitely need a rental car.
Biggest issue we had was the AC in our queen size bedroom did not work. We asked staff to fix it three times. The first time we asked to get it fixed, we were told someone would come out but no one ever did. The second time, we asked one of the staff members who was dropping of towels if they could forward our request again. The staff member said we had to go to the front desk. We asked a third time, and we were offered a fan and told a technician would come out at 2pm the following day. No one ever came. Unfortunately, it was to hot to sleep in the room even with a fan and by that point our 8 day stay was pretty much over. We will be requesting a price adjustment seeing as we never got to use the bedroom and pretty much had a 2 bedroom suite instead of a 3. We will update you all once we hear back from the resort.
All in all, the resort is family friendly and budget friendly. You will enjoy your time here.
This place has so much potential and hopefully they step up their game with the food and customer service.
I add some photos of our suite. I apologize in advance for the messy rooms but I took the pictures as we leaving to checkout.
