Beachhostel Holland — Hotel in Katwijk

To be clear I created a trip advisor account purely to complain about this Hostel, that's how annoyed I was!||||My partner and I booked this hostel despite mixed reviews because for a single night I'm willing to tolerate something rough round the edges if the price is right.||||We arrived outside the hostel of which wasn't advertised and out of luck asked behind the bar of a local pub to find out the hostel was located above.||||Upon entering the room I noticed the noise from the bar was still very loud, enough to keep the heaviest of sleepers awake. I also noticed that the bed was laid with both down/feather pillows and duvet.||||I have an extremely serious feather bedding allergy coupled with asthma which has on more than one occasion caused me to require an ambulance and oxygen support. ||||The first thing I did was to go and speak to the gentleman behind the bar about this issue, he informed me that no extra/spare bedding was kept there and that I'd have to stick with it. This wasn't an option and I didn't plan on putting MY ACTUAL LIFE on the line, so I asked for a refund. I was told that refunds weren't possible and that I'd have to go through the booking agent (booking.com)||||I phoned booking.com and explained the situation, they got in touch with the owner and then called me back. I was told that the owner was rude to the booking agent and that my allergies weren't his problem! He also stated that I should have mentioned the allergies when initially booking but there was no comments box or avenue to do this.||||I wasn't even offered a partial refund, despite only paying for the room less than an hour earlier. I have never in my life been to a hotel/hostel that didn't offer synthetic bedding as an alternative for people with serious allergies like myself (300+ hotels)||||As much as I hate to slate the place I will NEVER be returning and I urge anybody thinking of winging it to NOT BOTHER!||Maybe the owner will eventually take some notice when his business starts to suffer because of...

The hostel is above a very busy bar, I cannot comment on the noise level during the week, however, the bar is a full blown night club on Friday and Saturday nights. Our room was on the second floor and the noise from the bar was amazing, the bar is open until 1.30am on Friday's and 5am on Saturday's so we got hardly any sleep. The hostel is advertised as having a car park, it does not, the main car park is 200 metres away on the beach and cost 10euro per day to park. If you want breakfast it is 8.5 euro, and frankly, a cup of coffee, two slices of bread, one tiny egg per person, and six slices of cheese and ham between three people certainly does not warrant the extortionate price of 8.5 euro per person. We had a 5 bedroom room booked for the three of us, this was confirmed at the time of booking the room, on arrival I was told I had only booked for 2 people. Once the management agreed we had booked for three people I was charged an additional fee for the room as the management stated that they charged more for three people in a five-bedroom. The room was clean, small for five people,...

Hotel oder Hostel? Bei Buchung wurde uns "Hotel" angezeigt. Im Internet steht Hostel, am Gebäude direkt steht Hotel. Was denn nun? Es ist definitiv ein Hostel!

Was war positiv? Wir konnten schon vor dem Check-Inn einchecken, das Personal war sehr sehr freundlich. Das Zimmer war sauber, was für uns am wichtigsten ist. Auch sind es keine 5 Gehminuten zum Strand. Wirklich toll! Der Strand ist sehr schön und sauber.

Was war nicht toll? Zimmer: (Hoch)Betten aus Metallstangen, also Hostelflair. Das hat uns weniger gestört. Aber.... den Balkon sollte man vllt. besser nicht betreten, einerseits uneinladend andererseits wirkt er nicht sehr sicher. Bodenplatten liegen dort rum und sieht allgemein etwas schäbig aus. Und Zigarettenstummel sind dort auch leider noch. Schade, dass das andere Gäste dort hinterlassen, aber auch, dass bei der Reinigung nicht auch Mal auf den Balkon geschaut wird. Aber wir sind ja nicht dort um Zeit auf dem Balkon zu verbringen. Dann war das Bad noch schlimm. Nicht nur, dass es keinen Duschvorhang gab und dass das halbe Klo auch nass wurde und wenn man später aufs Klo musste, die Füße nass waren, sondern auch, dass das Waschbecken außerhalb des Bades war. Einerseits ok, aber wenn man nachts aufs Klo muss, weckt das alle anderen, um danach die Hände zu waschen. Einen Haken, um sich das selbst mitgebrachte Handhandtuch, aufzuhängen, gibt es natürlich auch nicht. Auch weckt man nachts alle, bzw. hält sie wach, weil die Lüftung sofort anspringt (was ja eigentlich gut ist), aber wirklich sehr laut ist, trotz geschlossener Tür und über 5 Minuten an bleibt.

Nächster negativer Punkt ist, dass es keinen Schrank oder ähnliches gibt. Wir mussten leider aus dem Koffer leben. Eine kleine Garderobe und zwei Minitsche habe es immerhin.

Fenster: die Balkontür lässt sich nur mit so alten Scharnieren schließen. Da es spät Abends und auch morgens ziemlich laut war (abends schreiende Jugendliche und morgens früh schon Arbeiten auf der Straße) wollten wir es wegen des Lärmes schließen und die Wärme in Kauf nehmen. Wir hatten (natürlich) am Meer Wind und auf der "geschlossenen" Stellung der Balkontür war die Tür trotzdem nicht ganz zu! Sie klapperte/knallte ständig gegen den Rahmen. Also mussten wir die Tür wieder etwas öffnen (es gab einen Haken) und den Lärm hinnehmen.

Frühstück: für 14,90 Euro hinzugebucht und für etwas Toast, Käse, Wurst, Butter, Marmelade (immerhin noch ein Ei) erwartet man doch etwas mehr. Auf Nachfrage gab es aber mehr Butter, Käse, ein Getränk dazu. Aber uns fehlte etwas Frische. Z.B. Gemüse (Gurke oder Tomate). Also es wird kostenlos nachgereicht (was toll ist, weil nachhaltig) aber für den Preis lohnt es sich einfach nicht.

Fazit: wir haben keinen großen Anspruch, aber das Preis Leistungsverhältnis stimmte...
