Avoid at all costs. This ain’t no bed and breakfast. This is the house of Glen, a cheap and poor old guy that lives in a dump and tries to pay his mortgage and make a living from stealing people’s money. His house is filthy. The place is messy, the rooms have old beds with mattresses that he probably took in the garbage. One mattress had holes on the side like some rats had gone in there. The tiny rooms don’t have place to move around and the guy thinks that leaving a box of Weet-Bix on the counter makes his house a bed and breakfast. He also listens to loud music in his room and share is house with some weird people. Going there felt like going in a drug dealer’s house: this did not feel safe.||||I don’t need much, in fact I was camping most of my trip in New Zealand or staying in hostels, but this place is disgusting, not acceptable at all and I don’t even know why Booking.com would allow such a place to offer rooms on their website. I just went there for my check-in and realized it was not suitable. When I told Glen I would not stay, he said no problem, just call Booking.com, they will contact me and I will agree for a refund. I did, and he never answered to the Booking.com agent. ||||I booked and hostel that night and when the guy from the staff read bad reviews people wrote about Glen, he told me that Glen lied to some other people about refunding them. So I called Booking again, they tried to contact Glen but he would pretend like the line was bad and hanged up each time they called. Booking.com asked me to wait 24h, told me they wrote him an email. Then what happened next is surreal, that man is sick… He wrote me a message on Booking.com asking me when I would be checking out because he needed the room for some other travellers, just to pretend to Booking.com I actually stayed at his house. Read moreI am travelling alone and had high expectations to stay at this B&B and was eager to stay there, as I thought it would be a highlight of my stay in Christchurch. Unfortunately, I was put in a very stressful situation, because Glen, the owner, cancelled my two-day stay on the morning of my arrival with the following message:
"Good Morning Mariana David
This is a VERY IMPORTANT message concerning the accommodation reservation you made on March 1st 2023 via the Booking Com website ,
Regrettably on this occasion I am now unable too offer you accommodation on Thursday 9th and Friday 10th March .
Reason being I have very elderly friends from Wellington that at short notice advised me that they are arriving this evening for the next eight days too visit their daughter and grand children .
I suggest that you promptly contact the friendly team at Booking Com Customer service in order that they can assist you to source suitable alternative accommodation in Christchurch.
Kind Regards Glen Proprietor Intrepid Bed and Breakfast Christchurch"
I replied asking if we could work on some kind of resolution together because I had no guarantee that Booking would be able to help me on time, I needed a place to stay and all the available alternatives were much more expensive and that would be complicated to handle for a solo traveler. I got no further response from the property. They simply don't seem to care that their negligent management of bookings affects and stresses the guest and are in no way available or interested in helping you.
If you want to have a good and stress-free NZ experience, I advise you to avoid this place, as apparently I'm not the only One who had this kind of experience (it seems like I was actually lucky that I was warned a few hours...

I received the following email on February 10, almost a month after my booking was confirmed and paid for:
“This is a VERY IMPORTANT message pertaining to the accommodation reservation you made through the Booking Com website on January 13th 2024
Regrettably on this occasion I am NOW unable to offer you accommodation on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th February
As well as referrals from the Booking Com website I also have a significant number pf PRIVATE clients who have stayed at my Christchurch premises on previous occasions
One such guest has requested an extension too her current stay because of ongoing medical appointments
I recommend that you contact the friendly team at the Booking Com customer service centre in order that they can assist you to source suitable alternative accommodation options for February...
