Blue Thistle Cottages — Hotel in Fiordland Community

We can’t thank Maggie and Ian enough for their extraordinary help when I had a medical emergency. From the minute we drove up to these charming cottages we knew we would have a wonderful stay. The cottages are beautiful, sparkling clean, and supplied with everything you need. Maggie and Ian are absolutely fabulous! We had two stays at the cottages booked, and in between the stays we were out on the Milford track. Unfortunately I had a bad fall on the track and had to be medevac’d out with a concussion and broken bones. Because we were supposed to be staying in huts on the track we had nowhere to stay for 2 nights. We called Maggie to see if she had a vacancy at the cottages which she did not. Maggie and Ian were so fabulous and helpful, calling around town to find us a place to stay. They came and picked us up at the medical center and drove us to the hotel that Maggie had found for us in the height of tourist season. When we returned to the cottages a couple of days later for our second stay, they were there to make sure that we were OK and we had a second fabulous stay at the cottages. I stayed for 2 nights in the 'Cottage 3 - Sunset' unit. What an incredible gem in Te Anau--one of my favorite places I stayed while roadtripping through New Zealand! I highly recommend the cottage I booked, as it seemed to be the most private of the 4, although each of the cottages looked great! I appreciated the warm welcome/cottage walk-through when I checked in. I was able to park right outside of the cottage, which was convenient as well. The cottage was immaculate, SO well-equipped (with NICE items too, not cheap utensils or appliances), and very comfortable. The A/C worked well. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was large, and the shower had great water pressure. The blackout blinds and curtains throughout the entire cottage were also top-notch....no light coming through at all! Cute outdoor furniture is provided to enjoy the view of the mountains and sunset. Such a quiet, peaceful stay. I can't say enough positive things about this wonderful place. Recently, my wife and I stayed five nights at Blue Thistle Cottages. Blue Thistle Cottages is on a peaceful property but is only three kilometers away from Te Anau Town Centre. Maggie, who is one of the owners, met us upon our arrival and was an excellent host. ||We stayed in Cottage 2, which has one bedroom, one bathroom, a living area, and a kitchen/dining area. The cottage was clean, comfortable, functional, and nicely furnished/decorated, and we had a parking space right next to our cottage.||On the front porch are a table and a couple of chairs. The backyard is nicely landscaped and has a picnic table and a couple of Adirondack chairs. It also has a nice view of the mountains. ||My wife and I are particular about our accommodations when we travel, but we have nothing negative to say about Blue Thistle Cottages.
