Overall decent amenities (at least for campervans), but I didn't feel welcome because of staff attitude. Difficult to explain exactly why, but felt like staff was annoyed with questions from guest. Even when asking about their home made chocolate (which btw wasn't that good) you didn't feel any positive vibes. It was just a bad atmosphere.
The campground is very conveniently placed near Milford Sound (3 hour drive each way), but if I ever have the chance to go back to Milford Sound, I would definitely find another place to stay. Rather stay on self contained spot (see Camper Mate app).
If your mood are not affected by the staff's mood, don't get me wrong: This is a nice spot with good mountain views. Bathroom is acceptable (low water pressure near wall at approx 1.7m height, with semi working heat adjustment - but free), toilets are fine, kitchen area is working well (no power outlets worked when we where there) and dining area has nice location with mountain view. Spa is surprisingly 10$/person for only 30 min. BBQ can only be used indtil 9 PM (needs to be cleaned before 9 PM - which we did).
Traveling New Zealand for more than 3 weeks, this has been the only time staff was spreading some bad vibes that affected our stay.
Reading other reviews in here, I can see I'm not the only one feeling those negative vibes and trying to describe it in a review. And I can see owner is responding to most of them in a semi rude way, negating their feedback instead of trying to work on staff attitude as the main pain point for this place. I expect nothing less than a similar response to my review, but felt like it was important to share my thoughts on the matter regardless.
The low rating reflect that everything is actually working, but I still would NOT place foot at...
Read moreVisited this holiday park as Te Anau is a good place to go from when visiting Milford Sound. At first sight it looked very clean with plenty of space. noticed the Lady running the show was quite rude but maybe she was having a bad day so let it go.
On our first night I went to use the shower facilities noticed they were quite dirty there must have been about 6/7 camper vans on the site. I gave them the benefit of the doubt maybe they clean them in the morning and as its 19:00 people could have just gotten them dirty. The next morning we visited Milford sound which was stunning. When we got back 17:30 went to the bathroom to have a shower before dinner and I noticed the same bits of toilet roll on the floor hair all in the sink. and overall very dirty and it had not been cleaned that day.
so we packed our belongs and checked out the next day. A few days later we had a charge on the credit card to say that $10 had been debited from the account. My partner called and again the lady who "runs the show" was on the other end and accused us of stealing a knife and a small bottle of washing up liquid. We were in a camper van which had everything we needed so why we would steal them is beyond us? No phone call to say that she would be debiting the account. Wouldnt take my partners word for it. Overall good location ( the 1 star ) rude staff dirty toilet and shower facilities. overall a bad experience that has left a sour taste...
Read moreWe did a spontaneous stay at this park as part of our visit to the area as the Fiordland DOC sites seemed just a little too daunting. We selected it because it appeared to have the quietest setting compared to the other parks in the area. However this proved to be nothing more that the “best of a bad lot”. Located on the Milford Rd, campers should be aware that this is still surprisingly noisy throughout the night. The attitude of the people running the site is best described by the other reviewers. I can only add that you are treated as a barely tolerated guest at an unwelcome home rather than a paying customer. Again this attitude is all too common in the budget end of NZ accommodation. NOTE - You cannot use electronic card payment here, which is virtually unheard of in NZ. This personally cost me money to withdraw cash from an ATM in Te Anau. There is an element of penny pinching about this which is apparent throughout the sites facilities. However this penny pinching is overwhelmed by expensive but inconvenient electronically controlled gates and a new plush but only partially completed amenities block. The wife raved about the new ladies. Unfortunately the Gents was still being completed so a long walk was required. Also on the upside it was possibly the tidiest site we have stayed at. It was like camping in someone’s garden. The kids loved the playground and made friends easily with other families...
