On our trip to New Zealand we decided to visit Milford Sound, this is in the heart of New Zealand’s Fiordland National Park. We drove from Queenstown and stayed in a small chalet which was about 56 Klm/35 miles from the actual Sound. The Chalet is set in the National park and has a few walkways close by but many more within a small drive. Veiw the website for other details The Chalet was quite basic, a little run down and needing some TLC which the current proprietor PC, told us was coming. The double bed was very comfortable and the heating system worked just a treat. There were plenty of utensils in the kitchen area, plates, cups, glasses and cleaning liquids. Stove top was gas, had a reasonable size fridge but no Microwave. There are no shops or restaurants and you will need to bring your own food, also, best to fuel up at Te’ Anau which you need to go through as fuel at Milford is expensive and only one pump. The toilet and shower were okay with medium size bath towels, hand towels and shampoo and body wash, enough for a couple staying two nights. The water was very hot and the shower was nice with a good strong pressure. There is no TV, Internet or mobile phone reception within the park you need to use a landline at the office or satellite phone. This appears to be common I all the residences close to Milford. We stayed here as the price was around half the price of the accommodation close to the Milford Sound Terminal which is really pushed high during the tourist season. From the Chalet it took us only 1 hour 10 minutes drive we left at 7 am to get the first boats. So, well worth considering the accommodation at Knobs Flat and the magnificent countryside.

We stayed one night at this accommodation for NZD $310 in a 1 Queen and 1 Single room. The overall stay was pleasant and the location is perfect, the closest accommodation to Milford Sound, making it incredibly convenient for those planning to explore this world-famous natural wonder early in the morning. The property operates on its own hydro-electric power, which we found to be both unique and eco-friendly. However, guests should note that high-power items such as hairdryers, electric kettles or fan heaters cannot be used while on site. This wasn’t a big issue for us, as the experience of staying off-grid added to the charm of the place. The beds were comfortable (9/10) — soft and cozy, ensuring a restful night’s sleep after a long day of travel. The surroundings were quiet and peaceful, creating a perfect retreat in nature. One of the most magical moments was stepping outside at night, we were able to see the Milky Way and countless stars sparkling across the sky. It was absolutely breathtaking and something we’ll never forget. Overall, this is an ideal stay for those visiting Milford Sound — a comfortable, eco-conscious and scenic base surrounded by stunning landscapes.

Our stay at Eglinton Valley Camp was truly memorable. The breathtaking vistas of towering mountains shrouded in clouds created a mystical and awe-inspiring atmosphere. The beds were exceptionally comfortable, providing a cozy retreat after our trip on the Milford Sound cruise. The kids were tired from the long drive from Queenstown to Milford Sound, so this pit stop at the camp helped us rest and re-energize for our return to Queenstown. We appreciated the rustic charm of cooking on the stove and using the whistle kettle instead of relying on a microwave. The amenities were top-notch and perfect for families, we suggest bringing bug spray, a long-lasting milk carton to pop in the mini fridge, and ample food supplies for an extended stay. Despite the rain limiting our outdoor adventures, the ambiance remained romantic and enchanting. We wholeheartedly recommend EV Camp to anyone seeking a magical experience in Milford Sound.

If you're looking for a peaceful getaway on way to Milford Sound, the Self-contained Cabin at Eglinton Valley Camp is the perfect choice. The independent units are located in a closed area and offers great views of the surrounding landscape, providing a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

The cabin itself is a comfortable space with a double bed, making it ideal for couples or solo travelers. The fully functioning kitchen with gas top, dishes, coffee, tea, and sugar is a great convenience, allowing you to prepare your meals whenever you want. Additionally, the parking right next to the unit is a huge plus, making it very convenient to move around.

What makes this camp stand out from the rest is that it is the only holiday camp offering self-contained units between Te Anau and Milford Sound, which is incredibly convenient for travelers. You can easily explore the nearby attractions (Lake Gunn, Lake Marian) and return to the peaceful surroundings of your cabin, before making it to Milford Sound.

Overall, my stay at the Self-contained Cabin at Eglinton Valley Camp was a pleasant experience. The cozy cabin, convenient amenities, and beautiful surroundings make it an ideal choice for anyone looking for a peaceful getaway in Milford Sound. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone planning to visit this stunning part of...
