My favourite place I've stayed in New Zealand so far. Upon entry you're greeted by a rustic, vintage atmosphere yet well-maintained and certainly loved.
You're welcome to park anywhere in the camp, either at the power spots or hide amongst the trees - and the host, a lovely lady, insists that it will always be your choice where to park, and to not have assigned spots.
The facilities are maintained and clean, the showers are hot and have pressure, and the laundry is $3 a wash $4 a dry. The kitchen has all the utensils you'd need, dump and freshwater available too.
You can walk around the forest in the camp and it's incredible to see all the vintage cars, campervans, photos and news articles all over the place. It's taken a lifetime of experience to collect and it's truly an inspiration to see - You can tell just how much effort has gone into this place.
The host Joelle, had so many recommendations of things to see and explained how overhyped Milford sound was and how much better Doubtful sound is. Unfortunately we didn't have time to visit Doubtful but we agreed Milford Sound was marketed heavily and was not as incredible as we thought it would be.
Joelle was the most kind, helpful and knowledgeable person we've met in New Zealand and it was a pleasure staying in her holiday park. We know you won't see this review but if you do, we hope you received our note and tip :)
If we return to NZ one day, we will come visit again no doubt about that!! Thank you for an experience that resonated deeply and showed us what NZ can be...
Read moreThis camp features a variety of overnighting options with powered and unpowered camper van sites, some built-out residences and some very basic cabins. The bathhouses were very well-maintained, as was the central kitchen dining area. Staff were friendly and helpful. The camp is quiet and low-key.||If you love the van/camp life, Manapouri Holiday Park is an ideal location for visiting the Doubtful Sound/Milford Sound region of the Fjordlands National Park. You’re overlooking Lake Manapouri with nothing to block your view, and it’s an easy stroll to Fraser Beach. The village of Manapouri - with a few restaurants and coffee shops - is a comfortable number of steps away. The sunrises here are awe-inspiring, with the mountains of the South Alps just beyond the lake beckoning. Serious eats (and drink) are better obtained in the village of Te Anau, about 10 minutes drive north. It gets crowded there, though - a reason to stay this venue instead - so make sure you book your evening meal in advance.||Overall high marks for this camp (assuming a camp is really your expectation and you’re spending most of your time on activities in this beautiful region. Just one thing: guys, can we put some hooks in the cabins to...
Read moreThis place helped us out with accommodation at the last minute. A great little find not found on any of the major booking websites. A refreshing taste of what life could be like without any mod-cons or distractions. A great collection of Morris minors, fantastic play area for kids and a games room reflecting some incredible fully functioning memorabilia from decades gone by. A short 150m stroll away from the beach with amazing mountain sunsets, this place has a lot to sing about but unlike other lodges which promise that lakeview and don't deliver, this place certainly under promises on location but over delivers in reality. There's places to camp, pitch up a van or stay. The little huts are quaint, simple and a nice break from the norm. The owners have some amazing local knowledge and the place is steeped in their family history, detailing the importance of travel and life experience. Would...
