Kawerau Thermal Motel — Hotel in Kawerau District

There are only two motels in Kawerau, we chose this one at Easter( visiting for a wedding) as it seemed closer to the town centre , slightly cheaper, and supposedly had a thermal pool which I really enjoy. Note that Google maps seems to have it in the wrong place. Coming in from Rotorua direction it is not far past the turn-off to the town centre, on the road you come in on. Well, when we went to check in, we asked if any of our friends were there for the wedding. No, said the woman,"maybe they're at the flash one" ! ( I'm like" there's a flash one?") That should have been a hint to go I think... anyway, we stayed. No thermal pool, the council has taken away the strength of the thermal heating or something... we pointed out the website still says there is a pool- "we keep telling them to update it", she says. But we may go to the Council-owned pool in town which is free- we actually did , the next day, and it was really good, but I digress. Unit is very old-looking with concrete block walls, just a kettle and microwave, No kitchen sink, you can't get the kettle under the basin taps properly to fill it, you wash your breakfast dishes and cups in the handbasin, yuck. And we think we had to ask for a teatowel. Not the very cleanest either. At least the bed was moderately comfortable. We had to laugh in the end, or you would cry. We did have fun at the wedding. The owner lacks professionality when dealing with families he shows up no notice for repairs and gives emergency housing peoples food parcels away putting them in hardship and causing them to argue and wouldnt reinburst the food lost or even make up the couple a care package he decides to kick them out on the street with 4 days ish left b4 they had to renew its Andre whatever his last name is this its sad to see and hear you've done it to many others the cleaning ladies are so awesome they made the stay as pleasantly smooth as possible as i was healing from a sgattered knee the rooms are ok and decent the owner needs to learn he isnt allowed to enter rooms and intimidate my guests and cleaners 0...

very friendly owner, however no heating underfloor as advertised, pool was green with algae hadn't been used for ages.||No instructions on using TV and had to get them over to show and it reverted when turned off so had to go through whole process each time. One pillow each provided.||Seal of fridge had grime and crumbs in it.||It would have probably been ok if the advertising for it was true.I went there because of the heating and the pool and neither was available....
