As soon as we arrived the place looked great. Besides the long queue waiting outside to be checked in. We weren’t advised that public check was separate so we waited outside at the back of a long line. We checked in the lady didn’t listen correctly as to what I was saying so when the rest of my group checked in at a later time they weren’t granted a car pass. That was resolved. We were given wrong directions by 2 different receptions which lead us to a herd of goats and Pooh, cars nearly got stuck as the ground grass was not leveled. There were only 2 portaloos to share between at least 30-40 tents. (Not sure how many people) by the end of the night the portaloos were covered with urine all over the seats and walls. They were cleaned by the morning. We were threatened by the security that if we weren’t quiet “the second warning, will be ugly” she walked around with a dog. The bathrooms and toilets were disgustingly dirty. Check out time at 10am was a bit too harsh trying to check out with at least 20 adults and 7 children. We were the only brown people around and we often got stared at a few times, while trying to wait for bathrooms. Wifi did not reach from where we were placed. Gates closed at 10.30pm and if the gate was locked you had to walk in to your campground and park outside. Reception weren’t so kind, what we thought would be a great family trip away for Auckland anniversary turned into a nightmare with money spent at this place. A lot could be improved.
-in reply to the owners comment. I do understand that with the long weekend there is a time where people will drink. To be quite clear.. our group did not have any foul language going on.. at the time of our stay, we had at least 2 baby’s under the age of 1, and we’re not the type to be screaming at the top of our lungs and cussing due to this. However there were large amounts of groups drinking during the night. There were only at least 4 of our men in the group drinking and chatting away (no violence or singing, no swearing, just having few beers) Just for clarification our group was in the middle of the outback close to the toilets so our kids could use the portaloos. I have been to a few other TOP 10 holiday parks incl (Taupo top 10, Rotorua top 10) and it is not nice to point out “my group, when clearly there was at least 10-15 groups enjoying the night. Thank you so much for hosting us, but a review is a review and this is a...

I had such a lovely stay at this Top ten site, I wanted somewhere to base myself to explore the Coromandels. I had called to double check they have hostel style dorms and bunks as I am doing this trip on a budget. The women on the phone was informative and told me about the amenities I would have access to as a guest. When I arrived in the afternoon I admitted I didn't know how long I wanted to stay for but they checked the availability for the week to give me a rough idea of how busy they were, I really appreciated this as I truly didn't know how long I'd chose to stay. In the end I stayed for five nights. The weather was pretty grim at the start of my trip but they had a pool and hot pool that was great to use. They also have a pizza and bar open on certain nights (I think it was from Friday to Monday.) The free wifi is limited daily but you do have options to buy more, the mobile service wasn't great on my phone so I think when this is the case that maybe limited wifi in the rooms but maybe somewhere you can go for a longer spell of wifi if needed to call home or do research for planning trip. But if you just give them a call to check they'll give you all the info. They are around ten minutes walk away from hot water beach itself where they have all the tide nfo on when to go and spades for hire too but to be fair you don't need to dig deep before you get the heat, which is really cool. The shop had a little bit of everything in case you forget anything. The toilets and showers are kept clean. The kitchens are effective for what you may need. I just had a super lovely stay as a solo traveler in the dorm room. The staff were the highlight, I thought they were brilliant. From their information to their friendly service. I hope management sees this and passes on the feedback of how lovely they are.
(Only other thing to note but I don't know what the site can do about this in all fairness, is be careful for slipping on the grassy areas. Had a fair few slippery moments but we did have a few downpour days of rain, not sure how this can be fixed,...
Read moreWe had an amazing time. We stayed in one of the Ensuite Villas with so much green space out front for the kids bike etc. room that includes fully equipped kitchen (no oven) and bathroom, wish there were toilet cleaning spray etc. so take your own if you’re like me who likes to clean after myself. Also take dishwashing liquid as EV came with a small one, the size of your index figure… I have a big family, 3 boys so they eat all the time. There’s a bbq on porch aswell, just clean up after use like we did, we went a bit extra tho lol… pizza was overpriced and fish n chips where we ordered hamburger and chips was too but it’s worth it. These are ordered from two different places and they’re not too far from each other. The shared kitchen is so clean. We used it for the oven for baking. At early hours of the morning security guards going around with flash nights. They are on top of every important things here. They also emptied our rubbish bin that was outside, on the second day. I’m grateful for that koz it was full. Hot Water beach and the hot water spring is only a three min drive away. We went two days in a row here, just beautiful. We made the most of it esp because there was a Life guard… surf that wave, however you want it… my 12 yr old did… bodysurfing, a few times… also I highly recommend that you do some research before going out to explore Cathedral Cove. That was a bit of a hassle for us but learned something for next time. And I’d rather walk there, so take comfortable walking shoes. Thank you Hot Water Beach Top 10… we enjoyed it thoroughly and really wanted to extend our stay but…...
