Stayed on a powered site for one night. 2 adults, 2 kids, 2 dogs..owner wanted to charge $25 per person $15 per kid + can’t remember how much for the dogs, we were the only ones there so said no way & he waived the kid & dog cost. The camping sites are in the centre while the permanent sites wrap around the camp ground in a circle..looking at the campground. But no one was there so privacy for us in Autumn. The toilets & showers reminded me of old pool changing rooms, tired and could feel cleaner but good enough nonetheless & water free & hot! Washing machines $6! Kitchen good set up. Great recycling set up but not much space for general rubbish. Dump station good but on the driveway that is on a good lean so didn’t get to empty completely. Owner was great, had lots of tips for staying including checking out Ocean Beach road where you dig a hole in the sand to have your own hot water pool. That was a highlight! They had a trampoline for the kids. There is one little dairy nearby plus a lovely restaurant...
Read moreLady on the phone was lovely, we called up to book a standard tent site for 2ish nights around the start of feb and she told us it was not necessary and that they don't do bookings but come anyway because there will be heaps of space and that it's quiet that time of year. We said okay no worries, showed up around those dates and there was a no vacancy sign on the outside. The place was packed full. We knocked on the sliding door and the guy inside looked extremely annoyed and just angrily gestured towards the "no vacancy" sign on the door before he even opened it, rudely told us there was no space and then went to slam the door shut in our face. I feel it was poor etiquette to assure us there'd be space and then let us drive all the way there and turn us away with no care. Definitely would NOT reccomend this place, and good luck if you do...
Read moreAnother fantastic cozy 2 nights stay at the Kawhia campground. I had the little bunker all to myself! As always, friendly professional service from the host Grant. Great facilities, everything you need and require. Clean communal toilets, showers, and kitchen. Fish filleting station. A freezer room for your ice and bait. Only a stones throw away from the beach if you enjoy your morning or evening walks. You can walk into town a long the beach front or dig yourself a hot water pool with the children. Fishing charter trips are always a good experience if you book in advance and the weather is right! Highly recommend staying at the Kawhia camping grounds if you are looking for accommodation. Cabins, powered sites for those in tents or campers. Book well in advance for peak holiday time. I...
