Kingswood Manor Motel — Hotel in North Island

It's seen better days, run down, barest of cooking facilities left over from the 70's, light smell OF the 70s still lingering in the room, carpets stained & threadbare, and a thick sticky green lugee outside the front step that some kind soul had gifted us, but that can all be ignored if you just need a bed for the night.||||Unfortunately we were supposed to be there for 3 & we ran into a number of other issues. Lady at desk spoke poor english, didn't quite understand we needed a cot for the infant in our party or many of the issues we raised. Finally she clicked & tried to charge us for its use, even though we'd booked & paid for the infant prior. After a bit of back & forth & her checking the reservation several times, she graciously agreed not to charge us a $45 fee for the cot. The next issue - No high chairs at this place ... ok, we can deal with that if we have to, now I understand the stained carpets||||Next on the list - damp wet spots in the room & bed. This was a big one for us. She tried telling us the cleaners cleaned the room & it was OK, but we weren't keen on damp beds or carpets so were done, not suitable for children so we wanted to leave.||||Once she understood we wanted a refund she became quite annoyed, dismissive & kurt. After 20 minutes of her stalking up to the 2 rooms we had while we were packing up, presumably to ensure we didn't steal the mismatched towels or perhaps the hand wash that had a busted lid circa 1979, we finally got refunded. She then left the office without a word lol||||We're now in an entire 2 bedroom air bnb cottage with full facilities including cot & highchair, kayaks, toys & many other extras, with a killer view too .... for $150 cheaper.||||Sooo not sorry we left after spending a half hour at...

Worst customer service experience we have ever had in over 20 years of domestic and international travel. Booked, and had confirmed, two rooms. Arrived after a busy working day to be told “…you booked only one and we only have one available”. Showed them the Expedia booking confirmation for 2 rooms…………….. no apology, no remorse, no attempt to help to find an additional room somewhere in Whangarei for our second staff member. Next day was offered a “free room” to use in the future. Reluctantly accepted as after yesterdays debacle was not keen to return. Later that date noticed that the “free room” had actually been charged to our credit card. It seems wasn’t “free” at all but just the second room we had originally booked and which they now automatically charged to us. Asked for a refund of the second room to be told ‘OK, but we will withhold the $35 Expedia commission…”. In short THEIR serious mistake caused us massive grief and cost us $35. Even though the room was clean the whole facility is urgently in need of an update, described by our staff as “depressing and uncomfortable”, and with the most appalling customer service we have ever had. Wish I could give less than 1 star. Where to start? Room felt like nothing was clean. Duvet I'm sure hadn't been washed in at least 6 months. Net curtains were full of mold and mildew. Shower wall cracked and pipe for shower head leaking, more mold on ceiling and base of shower box. On top of liquid soap and shampoo bottles was full of gunk. Towels were well worn. Had to go buy our own. Walls paper thin, so could clearly hear what others were doing in other rooms. No headboard for either bed. Electrical socket behind single bed damaged and possibly could cause someone injury (room 14). Stayed here for work, nothing in area available due to conference in town - colleague made mistake of wearing socks in room, which turned black, so carpets not cleaned either. I showed owner on check out the photos of the mold and state of shower, but suspect nothing will be done as reading other reviews this has been mentioned before and is obviously still there. I would have rather slept in a tent in the garden than stay here. Didn't try spa pool as afraid of what the water quality...
