Tokaanu Lodge Motel — Hotel in North Island

Stayed here for 2 nights. The lodge was very disappointing. The cupboard doors were all battered, the curtains were missing hooks, there were random dirty patches on the walls and the patio furniture was broken. It needed new furniture and a coat of paint. The gutters were all blocked and dripping onto the decking.||The town also seems to have seen better days.||There are free thermal pools on site, but they felt dirty and tired.||There seemed to be lots of workmen staying on the site and we had to argue with the residents of the next lodge as soon as we arrived as they blocked our car in with one of their vans and we needed to get away early in the morning.||Our lodge was next to the main road which had a lot of noisy, fast moving traffic all night long.||The lodge slept 6, and would have been very cheap for 6. For just 2 of us it was still quite expensive and not up to scratch. We have paid the same amount elsewhere for spotless modern lodges.||We bought some crips from reception and then discovered after eating them that they expired 2 months ago!||The biggest problem was the WiFi. We apparently had 2 GB of data each day for our 2 day stay. Our automatic photo backups had used all the data within 30 mins of arriving and we then had no more internet for the rest of our stay! ||Overall a...

This is my favourite place I just love it here and i miss it but i will return Some day! This place is a great place I definitely recommend the rooms they give you. lol more like the house they give you it is amazing it has six beds three upstairs and three downstairs two of the beds downstairs are King singles or double beds it also has a kitchen and a bathroom and sky TV. Also there is 1 small freshwater pool 2 small thermal pools and 1 big freshwater pool it is just great and you don’t pay extra to go in the pools. The lady that runs the place is very nice and friendly there are also snacks available to buy and soft drinks in reception it’s just a great place. If you have animals do not smuggle them in 😂 because it is A pet friendly place when I stayed there we brung our small dog and our kitten and it was no problem just make sure they don’t bark because that’s when the problem comes in. A hidden gem. Spacious, clean, extremely comfortable beds, rang and booked direct and was given an outstanding price, 4 onsite hot pools (two mineral, two freshwater). The owner we dealt with was amazing, on hand but never loitering! As mentioned by others, its not flash, if you like the commercial chains this isn't the place for you, these accommodations have plenty of room, adorable personal touches, oodles of charm, its a warm, friendly scenic place to stay where bush walks, trout feeding, the lake and the mountain are just out the door, its situated in a historic village which supplies many wee glimpses of the past. The owner is updating and progressing as the budget allows and I can to wait to revisit and watch her developments. It's the perfect place for kids, a great location to relax and experience nature at its best, so many free adventure options, your soul will sing, your wallet will stay fat and your heart will hum with happiness, did I mention the clear night skies for star gazing?
