My friend and I needed to stay as close as possible to our friend's place as we were attending a funeral.||||After researching online, this place was the closest to where our friend lived so I called and booked a unit. I thought the price was quite steep given it was so far out of the city but assumed it would be fine for what we needed.||||We went into the bar to check in, and were given a small red and white spotted jug of milk (which immediately gave me an uneasy feeling about what we may be about to discover). ||||We opened the door to find a small cramped room, with two single beds. The beds had been made with very thin coloured sheets. The sliding door to the ensuite was almost impossible to close (you had to wrench it across, there was certainly no 'sliding' involved in closing the door) and in fact in it's final closed position there was a good five centimetre gap meaning there was a total lack of privacy.||||And it gets better; for our $150 we also found there was no jug or toaster in our room, but there were two glasses, two coffee mugs and two teaspoons. After a search around the property my friend found a small kitchen that appeared to be where each unit's guests were expected to make their drinks and toast.||||The one redeeming feature of the property was the table and two chairs placed outside each unit. This was much appreciated as there was not alot of room to relax within the cramped unit.||||A more realistic price to pay for these units would be $80 to $90, certainly not $150.||||The host was friendly as were the staff but when all is said and done, the units were what I would call 'Claytons' units.....a pale imitation of what a unit...
Read moreDo not stay at this hotel - I am filing a formal complaint with the local council about this place, it should be shut down. Here's what we encountered during our stay:
There was rat poo on the bed on one of the blankets - which I had accidentally sat on in the only dress I packed. I had to scrub the dress for about 20 minutes in the basin in my room
Copious amounts of ants - I emptied out all of the packets of coffee, tea and sugar and realised there was an open sachet of sugar which had attracted ants. I spent time cleaning up the ants and the coffee & tea storage container
The window at night wouldn’t shut - the frame of the window was bent, so hundreds of mosquito’s came in
The room was generally unclean - there were dozens of daddy long legs which shows the room just hasn’t been cleaned to the point where the room was just not usable
The final straw was finding a cockroach in our bed which we have a picture of - that was the final straw and we were prompted to pack everything up at 3am and leave the hotel - we had to drive 1 hour and a half to get back home.
I am trying to get my money back - if they refuse I will go to the disputes tribunal.
I am appalled as an NZ Citizen that a hotel like this is allowed to operate, I've stayed at over 100 hotels and motels over the years, and I've never encountered anything as disgusting at this.

Read moreMy wife and I dropped in fir a meal and were not disappointed.||We quickly chose a Lamb Shank meal for me and Salt n pepper squid for she.||The ambience was a delight bright and roomy with an assortment of seating.||The meals came promptly delivered by 2 burly men Both capable cheery and efficient . not your usual smiley waitresses.||Wow what a sight the Lamb shank was in mint gravy and a heap of mashed potato.||My wife shifted her seat till she sat opposite me and shared my shank with gusto ! Her squid came and went piece by piece during the course of the shank consumption. ||When our plates were clear only smattering of gravy and balsamic vinegar were left.||We are replete and as fully satisfied as two people could be.||Our recommendation is do not pass by this opportunity to engage with the locals and enjoy a fabulous meal. This place is an obvious eatery but not frequented as it should be. A gem...
