An absolutely awesome getaway tucked away at the most northern point of the South Island. Stunning beaches and oh so quiet. Truly peaceful and relaxing. The camp sites are perfectly sheltered, not to much sun to make the tent unbearable but just enough to keep it warm. Laying in the tent watching the shadows from the trees play over the roof - in comfort! Facilities are clean, practical and well stocked - and no, you don't need to shower or toilet in the dark as another claims! Location is perfect for exploring the area (see photos) - and OMG - the birdlife and birdsong, especially in the mornings - it's magical! A truly wonderful way to wake up. The host's are lovely, welcoming and friendly - and with a little brandy Christmas cake hilarious! We have tried all the camp grounds in Golden Bay area now and Farewell Gardens Holiday Park is the stand out. We'll be back again for sure and we're looking forward to seeing you there!

It is a small holiday park for couples and families in Puponga, suitable to stay for few nights if you plan to see Wharariki beach, Farewell spit and Cape Farewell.. The hospitality of Nicky is outstanding, she lend few towels too. The cabin is clean, simple and basic. It is run by solar, kitchen and shower water are rain showers. No tv and wifi, it will let you take a break from the devices and noise. We have enjoyed our 3N/4D stay. When I return to Puponga, I should stay here again.

A camp site with privacy and not overcrowded. The tent sires has planting around the sites which offers privacy and visits from Kererus, tuis and fantails. The amenities are basic but does the job. The beach across the road is beautiful during high tide. At low tide, it offers plenty of opportunity to explore around the other side of the bay. Plenty of other options for walking, farewell spit and Wharariki beach

Place was ok until confronted with a problem with the showers, didn’t ask for money back, just told them. The gentleman men was VERY impolite. $2 for a 2 minute shower. I would not recommend this place in light of the services rendered. Up the road there’s another campground.

Edit: First, i did not ask for money back. Even implying I tried to get money for a service I used says more about you then it does about me. Second, the video was for troubleshooting purposes, the valve on the top left above the shower was showing the Red indicator light while no water was coming out. The red light turns on for 2 minutes after a $2 coin is put in the slot. The short vid was made after waiting for about 1 minute without a decent amount of water coming out. Third: did you know the gentleman was shouting even before he came out of the door and did not even bother to look at the vid? He did not ‘confront’ me he was shouting all the way through. Showing a video is not unacceptable behavior, it’s showing a problem as it happens. Fourth: being polite to your customers is paramount, shouting at your customers is not polite. Fifth: being welcoming at first, does not negate the fact that you were actually shouting at your customer after coming to you with a problem. Sixth: my review stands in and is strengthened by the reply received on...

The staff were very nice and helpful. We were told what we could do in the area. The kitchens and bathrooms are very clean. Not enough bathrooms if the campsite would be full. Two of us stayed for two nights on a normal campsite without power and paid 100 dollars. You also have to pay two dollars per two minutes for a shower. Not just for hot water, but for water in general and there was no way to throw away your garbage. Accordingly, I find it far too expensive for what you get. Fine for one or two emergency nights, but no longer.

Edit:

It's a shame that you have to react to criticism like this. I just think it's a bit of a shame that you have to make money out of this water. You could also simply hand out chips when you check in, so that you also save water. In my opinion, it's just a bit expensive if you have to do without certain comforts that you have at other campsites and pay the same price. Nevertheless, I wish the campsite every success. I was still happy to give it 3 stars because everything was clean and...
