Mount Dobson Motel — Hotel in South Island

We were looking for somewhere to spend a night between Wanaka and Christchurch. This Kiwiana motel ticked the box beautifully. The last half an hour of our drive to get there was in pouring rain in the dark. So it was so welcoming to be shown our cosy motel which the hosts had all ready and toasty warm for us. The linen was lovely on the beds. And although the style of the building is dated, the owners have made it really fresh and clean. A highlight was their recommendation of the Silverstream pub right next door. A good old farming pub. With a stack of gumboots left outside, it had a wonderful hum to the place. With our accommodation so close, we could enjoy a tipple and people watching of the tourists and the local farming crowd....

Nice motel for a correct price. 25min drive to Tepako, 5 min drive to Fairlie (big 4Square and fuel). The units are small but very well arranged and very well equipped. Warm welcome, nice service, we had a change of towels everyday and they took out the trash. The carpark is off-street, right in front of the unit. There's a pub right next to the motel which is great for a drink or dinner without having to drive. The wifi is really not great. It's enough to do most things but it's not very fast and easy to lose...

With lockdown travel restrictions lifted we booked ourselves a weekend away from Christchurch. Kimbell near Fairlie is close enough to get to after work on a Friday without the travel being burdensome. Our room was clean, quiet and comfortable. Our hosts welcomed us. We enjoyed meals from the caravan and hotel next door. The short walk around Kimbell gave us much needed fresh air and a look at the running scenery. Well be back again as...
