During our recent stay in New Zealand, we stumbled upon this hidden gem that surpassed our expectations and left us with an impeccable experience.
After a long day of exploring, hunger struck us unexpectedly, and we found ourselves craving a hearty meal. However, fate seemed to have played its part as we arrived at the pub just moments after the kitchen had officially closed. Disheartened, we were about to leave when the friendly staff noticed our predicament and approached us with warm smiles and hospitality that exceeded our expectations.
The exceptional service provided by the staff was commendable. They went above and beyond to accommodate our hunger and ensure we had a satisfying meal. Despite the kitchen being closed, they generously offered to rustle up something for us from their limited resources. Their willingness to serve us despite the inconvenience was truly remarkable and made us feel welcome and valued as guests. As we savored the food that was meticulously prepared for us, we were pleasantly surprised by its quality and taste.
Beyond the food, the ambiance was cozy and inviting. The rustic decor created a warm and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for relaxing with friends and loved ones. The pub's pleasant and lively vibe combined with the friendly banter of the staff enhanced our overall experience, making it all the more memorable. If you find yourself passing silver stream Hotel make...

Now to my fellow weary travelers, if you’re like us and find this place to be the only spot open at night after a long drive, you won’t regret it. My hopes weren’t high based on the circumstances and (hard to say as it was dark) but seemingly unassuming location. But if I was local I’d be a regular. The atmosphere was very fun and friendly, lots of chatting and laughing and drinks flowing. I was shocked to find jägerschnitzel on the menu and was pleasantly surprised. I’m not born and raised German but lived there for a few years and come from a German family and it hit the mark.
Our only snafu was getting a seat, we had not assumed it would be too busy but it was PACKED. Now it was trivia night so that may have played a part, but if you’re not from around here I’d call ahead just in case. Our mistake either way not their fault, they worked to accommodate us but sadly we had to just get takeaway as we had our infant with us and were coming off the drive from Picton.
Either way if you’re local or just passing through, stop by and get a beer or 5 and try the delicious food. If you’re not shy you may even make...
Read moreAfter seeing some good reviews, we decided to try the place out for dinner. At near on $40 a meal, we expected some good quality meals. We were highly disappointed to say the least. Expensive and very basic pub meals.
Chicken wings were overcooked and pork belly starter pitiful for $16. Broccoli salad was cooked, served hot with lettuce, not great. Salmon was just ok. Lamb dish had 5 very small pieces of lamb, overcooked and stuffed in a big lump of mashed potato. Potato served on top of half the lettuce which made lettuce hot and soggy.
We waited a long time for starters, and mains were served just as we were finishing the starters. Dissapointed after seeing so many good reviews. Staff were friendly, but we won't be returning anytime soon for food...
