I could not reach the motel because of landslides near Fox Glacier but the motel still charged me for not staying. If it was a general no-show, they have every right to charge. But it was a force majeure issue.

I informed the motel that I will reach between 12 AM and 1AM on Saturday (early morning), 10 Nov 2024. I landed in Queenstown at 7.30 PM and as I was driving towards fox glacier, there was heavy rain slowing me down considerably (highest 24 hr rainfall in 40 years). Past Haast and near Knights Point, there was a land slide. I was the first to reach the site of the landslide and informed emergency. The screenshots show that I reached the site at 12.10 AM (NZ time or 10.10 PM AU time), I was on the call with emergency for 8 minutes (until 12.18 am) and the road closed at 12.21 AM. I took the photo of the landslide at 12.25 AM.

They thought I don't have any proof of details of road closure that they refused refund claiming I could have still reached the motel in the morning. They did not realise that I was the one reported the closure, have screenshots / photos of all information. I later provided them with details. But they have still refused.

The road is closed as I write this review (Wed, 12 Nov 2024). They were trying to fool me for around AU$250. All the other activity providers have given full refund.

For their corporate greed and for trying to tell me that I could still reach the site, I give...

This was our second stay at Mt Cook View this year, and it was just as wonderful as the first. The location is perfect – right between the Fox Glacier town center and Lake Matheson, with peaceful farmland all around and incredible views of the snowcapped mountains. The facilities are excellent. Parking is right in front of the unit, and the room itself is spacious, warm, and very clean. We really appreciated the carpeted floors, multiple heaters, and the electric blankets on all four beds – it made the chilly nights so comfortable. The kitchen is well-equipped with everything you need, and the towels (Monarch, Australian-made) were high-quality and felt luxurious. Matt, the owner, is extremely friendly and helpful, which made our stay even better. On top of that, the property is pet-friendly, and we loved meeting the owners’ two friendly dogs, Bimmish and Tarn. Overall, Mt Cook View is a perfect place to stay when visiting Fox Glacier. It feels like a home away from home, and we’ll definitely be back again.

Our room was very spacious, two bedrooms with a big living room and kitchen. Location is good, 2km away from the Fox Glacier town. kitchenette had all kinds of kitchenware and very useful. But the Wifi was terrible, the first night, all of our devices were not able to connect the Internet, the next day was a little better but was still very hard to use the Internet and browse webpages. Some furnitures need some maintenance. The manager charged me the room fare was a little more than the receptionist told before.
